I think I would be inclined to order the birth certificate for Linda M. Williams in Newton Abbott and give "Elizabeth Ellen" as a checking reference point for the mother's name.

Hugh says in a p.m. that the solicitors were in Crediton which is in the same area of the country as Newton Abbott.

Perhaps the mother's parents forced the adoption on her if she wanted to stay in the same area - even though she later married.
