I'm trying to find the births of George and Mabel Storer. George was born c1885 and Mabel c1889. They were both born in Hucknall Torkard in Nottingham and their parents were Henry and Mary. I'd really appreciate your help. Many thanks.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I've looked on Ancestry UK and here but without success so far.

The one for George might fit but Mabel appears on the 1901 census as 12 years old. Thanks for looking.

That's terrific. I think that I'd better send off for the birth certificates to check. I'm trying to confirm their mother's maiden name as I can't find any marriage under the name given on my grandfather's birth certificate and these 2 seem to be his siblings.

Thanks....Mary goes missing from the 1901 census along with my grandfather Frederick James born in 1892. There's not a trace of them but Henry, George and Mabel are all there!

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 23 Nov 2008 19:30

What name was given on your grandfather's birth certificate for Mary?

Pamela

Pamela Report 23 Nov 2008 19:34

It says Mary Talbot but I can only find a marriage to a Mary Turner that fits in with the dates. Henry and Mary were living in Foleshill in Warwickshire and the census show that they were both born there.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 23 Nov 2008 19:42

Perhaps Mary had been married before she married Henry Storer?

Pamela

Pamela Report 23 Nov 2008 19:47

It's possible...I think that Henry had been married before. I've found a marriage to Eliza Barnett (or Burnett) in 1880 and she died in 1882. If Henry remarried fairly quickly then the dates for the birth of George would fit. Any ideas on the best way to check for previous marriages?

There's no easy way ..... a matter of putting different names into FreeBMD and seeing what comes out!!

Thought so!!!! I've just been playing with that. I think that I'll send off for the birth certificates and see if it says Talbot on them in case there was a mistake made on Fredericks.
Thanks once again for all of your help....sometimes it helps to have a fresh pair of eyes looking!

Hi Christine
Where did you find the marriage? It looks like a possibility, after all, perhaps they didn'y marry until after the first 2 children were born...wouldn't be the first time in this family as I'm finding out!!

ChristineinPortugal Report 23 Nov 2008 20:10

I've just checked the full indexes and there is no Henry Storer to correspond with that marriage record for Mary Talbot.

Oh well, back to the drawing board! But many thanks for looking.

The marriage was on Free BMD

They can be a bit more up to date than Ancestry as Ancestry take their transcribed ones from there.
