Creditors a possible....lol

I might get hold of the certificate of the marriage to Mary and see what it says for father's name, if I were you, and then see whether he can be found in 1841, or a birth in the IGI.

... Duh, you said you were doing that.

Two name changes in my family turned out to be because of spots of bother -- one with the military and one with creditors. Neither seems likely in your case. Yours did shift, from 1851 in Warwickshire to 1861 in Staffordshire. One does wonder!

I thought that aswell, must be the same man, there must have been some reason for the name change, that i think will remain a mystery i think.

Thankyou for your help Evie

The Thomas in 1851 does look like born Ratley, Leicestershire, on the image.

The Thomas in 1861 is Astley, Warwickshire.

Astley is near Bedworth, so that makes more sense.

It would be odd for Mary to have married two Thomases both so much younger than herself!

Someone could have misread Astley/Ratley way back at the time.

i cant find any of the births either, i think i,ve found what i think is the marriage for mary page and thomas west and sent for the cert today, so i hope its the right one.

I think your right about Maria.

Any ideas why the changed their name to stone?

Or is it another thomas and she married again?

Another team effort! My own contribution being rather small, but you're welcome, lol.

I've looked and looked for Ros*s and Mar*s by any likely surname in any likely place in the birth records, but to no avail ...

Helen Report 21 Nov 2008 20:35

yes it could be maria, Thomas page is my husbands gr gr grandfather, dont know who william and thomas father is

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 21 Nov 2008 20:32

Maria would fit with her being Rosa M in 1861 -- a person who went by a middle name often showed it as an initial, or vice versa, if Maria was the first name and Rosa the second, Rosa M would also be a common way of reporting the name.

Or she might be a child of William -- he shows in 1861 as married (although it is a ditto), but no wife is present ...

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 21 Nov 2008 20:15

And the other one is all one word -- Rosahannah, more likely Rosanna.

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 21 Nov 2008 20:14

There seem to be a few Rosanna's on FreeBMD, which sounds like Rose Hannah.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 21 Nov 2008 20:14

Rosa H is actually Rosa M -- compare to M in Mary.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 21 Nov 2008 20:12

One might guess that Rosa Hannah the elder is actually a daughter of one of the other daughters!
