I have been re reading your posts of yesterday and am wondering if some of the info I have given is correct

You said you were looking for the Marriage of Thomas Peaty..

Later you say that your direct ancestor is Edward Peaty born 1824 at Shipton Bellinger.

The Edward Peaty I have quoted (born 1821) was also buried in 1821 so that rules him out!

There is not another Edward Peaty baptised between 1813 and 1841 but there is an Edward PETTY baptised 15 Feb 1824 at Shipton Bellinger s of Sarah illigit

There are no other Petty/Peaty baptisms at Shipton Bellinger.

I suspect Sarah is the d of George and Martha (born 1802) see below and her grandfather's name was Edward

What do you think?

What was your thinking on Thomas, who is Sarah's brother?

I have not had much luck finding Edward in the census',have you?

Jason

I think this is your family

Marriage 01 August 1789 at Andover
George PEATY
Martha BRACKSTONE

Children of George & Martha baptised at Weyhill (which is not too far from Andover)
25 Dec 1789-Mary (bpt at Penton Grafton)
04 Dec 1791-George (Paty)
05 Jan 1794-Elizabeth
08 Apr 1798-Thomas
10 May 1801-Martha
04 Nov 1802-Sarah

George was baptised 29 July 1768 at Andover s Edward & Elizabeth

Marriage 13 August 1820 at Andover
Thomas PETEY
Sally GILMORE

I have found the following children for Thomas & Sally baptised at Andover
28 Sept 1820-George
01 May 1822-Jane
10 Mar 1824-Isaak (bur 12 Dec 1824)
30 Mar 1827-Isaac
26 Oct 1831-Elizabeth (born 21 May 1830)

Bapt 11 April 1800 at Andover
Sally GILLMORE d Isaac & Sally

Bapt 17 July 1821 at Andover
Edward Peaty s George & Mary

I think something must have happened to Thomas & Sally
Did you find them in the 1841 census?
I could not see them but found Isaac age 13 living in an "outhouse" at Hurstbourne Priors with 3 other men
and
Elizabeth age 14 living in Laverstoke Mill which looks very like like a workhouse or some sort of communal living!

(both were in the Whitchurch/ Overton RD)

I have the buriel index for Hampshire 1400-1837 and cannot see a buriel for Thomas or Sally(Sarah) which would fit

I think with your excellent help this has been well and truly cracked. So my gr gr gr grandfather had a twin. this is exciting news and potential for many more relatives to find and add to the tree. You have been very very helpful.

Im going to have to go now and clean up the house, (The girlfriends coming over and dont want to give the wrong impression) before we go out for a meal.

Thanks again for your help and I will hopefully let you know how things progress

This looks like George's birth, only 1 year out:

PEATY, George Christening
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 8 Sep 1820
Christening Date: 25 Sep 1820 Recorded in: Andover, Hampshire, England
Father: Thomas PEATY
Mother: Sally
Source: FHL Film 1041199 Dates: 1813 - 1876

(Not very long after the marriage date, tut tut!)

Im hoping that the Isaak that you have mentioned is a brother as I have come across him many times during my searches and with a name like Isaak i should be able to find him again quite easily.

On the 1871 census there appears to be another son George Peaty aged 52 so born around 1819 also andover. I havent added him to my tree just yet as im waiting to confirm the link which it looks like you may well have done

Do you have other children of Thomas & Sarah/Sally, Jason? I could compare them with the ones on BVRI.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 18 Nov 2008 17:21

Just noticed that the birth date for Isaak and Edward is identical. I wonder?

Hi Jason, BVRI is British Vital Records Index, a set of 16 cd's that I purchased many years ago. I don't think they're still available. They're extracted from parish records so quite reliable.

Not sure on the Isaak theory, All the records for my Edward have been confirmed with later certificates, I have info that his birth date was 06/02/1824 place of birth being Shipton Bellinger but the parents seem to match dont they, what a quandery

Thats it, the confirmation is in the 1871 census where I have Sarah Peaty living with her sister Lucy Gilmore. both from andover.

Well thanks for that, thats brilliant. I havent come across BVRI before is this a subscription site?

This is from BVRI:

PETEY, Thomas Marriage

The two in the 1700's would not match and the one 1827 with Sarah Legar is too late really I have my direct ancestor Edward Peaty born in 1824,

Ive seen nothing that fits on IGI familysearch.org
