Thanks Gwen, funny they didn't put which town in 1851, perhaps she didn't know. I was hoping Romford in case she had returned there to have her children...

I think I might be rather stuck with this one as I can't be sure that the John junior is 'mine' without knowing his mother's name.

Many thanks for everyone's help.

It's near Colchester...bit far from Romford but possible John junior was born there and the family then moved. Are you able to provide the details for 1851 please?

Many thanks Gwen!

Thanks for checking Samspade...I was wondering whether there was any connection with the Cookes of Gidea Hall (Romford) so rather hoped we might be able to get a bit further back on this line. Oh well!

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi, could anyone please check IGI for the Cooks if the censuses are proving difficult to locate (I can't access it on my PC at the mo)? I see that there are some deaths for John Cooks in Romford on free BMD so John Cook senior may have also been dead by the time of the marriage.

Cheers Christine, might have to order the cert!

Many thanks to everyone for the Guest information, I think I have some new details to work on.

Can anyone help with the Cook line at all please, although it is possible he might have been at sea in 1841 and 1851 (although he was presumably around in March 1851 as he had a son born nine months later!) ?

very possible!

they didn't always mention that the father was deceased

Happy hunting

Shame...thought we might have been on to something there...

I've just found a death for a John Guest in Goole (free BMD) in Sept 1841, maybe he was dead by the time of the marriage and they just hadn't recorded the fact on the cert?

CLW2005

CLW2005 Report 6 Nov 2008 09:47

no Tasker/Guest or Tasker/Cook marriages that fit!

Christine :((

Helen

Helen Report 6 Nov 2008 09:40

The witnesses are William Tasker (not certain of first letter of surname) who means nothing to me but the other is Mary Guest (maybe a sister - such as in the 1841 census!).

Unfortunately it just says 'Goole' on the marriage cert and they were married in Hook...

Thank you both! I think it's likely that Elizabeth was in service then but I suppose either of those results could be possible. Thanks for the 1851 for John Guest, Christine. Possible given the daughter Emma (same as 1841 although the other children don't tie up) and I suppose that he could have changed occupation, maybe he felt too old for marinering!

Do you have an address for elizabeth when she married?she may have been there in 41
