Bryan Report 17 Oct 2008 18:31

I have found umpteen records for my great grandads wedding. His
first child was born in last Quarter of 1883, he would have been married in the Nottingham area.
I have 2 records in 2nd quarter 1883, 1 in last quarter 1892, 2 in 1891 2nd and 3rd quarters. and another 9 between 1890 and 1888.
A problem is I only know my great grand mothers first name.

The question is from your experiences out there where do I go next would the records offices check the records I could supply for a Samuel Smith who married Minnie ?

Or do I have to purchase certificates till I find the correct one.
Did they have to get married?
What would be an average length of marriage before having children back in the 1880's.

If anyone has any ideas please advise
thanks
Bryan

Have you looked on freebmd for Samuel Smith/Minnie marriage? I can't see any in the nottingham area, i also checked the Notts marriage disc and there isn't a Samuel marrying a Minnie.Perhaps they were married in Derbyshire or Lancashire?
If your going to order a cert a birth of one of their children would be best.
