my great great grandfather was a man called william reeves (1857)he married a alice taylor (1870) in april 1895 2 weeks after stanley was born and had 2 boys stanley (1895) and harvey (1896) i ordered a copy of his marriage cert a found he was a widower i any one has any ideas how to find out who he was married to first and if he had any other children would be very appriciated. his father was a thomas reeves.

If you have his marriage certificate give us a little more info. When did he marry? You say 1890's, you must have a date. And where?

theres a few possibilities in 1881 and 1891 but none that i can see born Gratwich.

I can't find the marriage either but Lou says she has the certificate. Closest one I can find is Lucy Taylor and Harry Reeves 1924.

The 1891 that I posted William is a shoemaker, same occ as 1901.

I found the children's birth's in the district of Nantwich in Cheshire
Emma born 1887, died 1900
Fred born 1890, died 1891
Polly may have been called Mary and born 1886
Ada born 1885 is a servant in 1901 so maybe this explains what happened to the children that appear with William in 1891 but do not appear with him in 1901

In 1881 William appears as nephew to Mary Roe in Adbaston Staffs where she is a Farmer,He is 25 and Shoemaker unmarriedand shows birthplace as Walsall.
This is the same Roe as was his employer on her farm in 1871
What happened to Elizabeth b 1855 Wednesbury -cant find her 1901 yet William shows himself as married
The birth certs for Stanley and harvey would show if she was their mother or Lucy Taylor who is shown (perhaps euphemistically) as "visitor"

APOLOGIES IT WAS ALICE TAYLOR NOT LUCY SORRY EVERY BOD.william married ALICE TAYLOR in 1895 so ELIZA must of died between 1891 and 1894/5 and ALICE between 1895 and 1901. Ive been hunting on the bmd index on HARVEY REEVES but so far no record of a marriage or death just wondered if any one can find what happened to him. You have obviously changed the name in the original post as you had Lucy Taylor

I think you should have commented on the wrong name rather than just change it as it makes everyones posts look strange as we were all looking for Lucy Taylor, no wonder we couldn't find a marriage.

This is also a good example of why it is a good idea to hang around for awhile after posting because you could have given us the correct details. There were questions asked within a few minutes of your post.

You should be able to find the deaths on Free BMD.

Im not sure if LUCY was ALICES sister but there is no record of a ALICE dying between 1896 when harvey was born and 1901 unless she worked away from the home?

Why do you think Alice died?

The 1901 census says William is Married. Perhaps she was working or visiting a relative.

What was the name of Alice's father on the marriage cert and his occupation?

If she can be found before marriage you will know if she was a sister to Lucy.
