I have been struggling to find info on my grandad Walter James Turner born 14th Nov 1898, London area? i think.
Have his marriage certificate 1920 which states his father Robert is deceased and was a Waterside Labourer.
Walter was living at 8, Little Randolph Street, NW London when he married.
I have rung the St Pancras archives, and they told me the family who were living with him, were Charles, Robert and Ada Turvey,
which matches with what i was told that Walters mother remarried someone Tuvey.
also John Tuvey is one of the witnesses on his marriage certificate.
so obviously the Tuvey are his step family and half brothers/sisters.
but i still cannot find anything on Walter or any members of his or Tuvey family.,
have put this on a different thread as it is different info and to save names from being too confusing.
I have a different thread for just Walter and his father running from a few days ago, which has info on that other people have been kind enough to find for me, if you would like to cross reference that info.
any ideas as to what to do next, would be appreciated, as this man meant a lot to me, and i am frustrated that i cannot seem to get anywhere.
many thanks

Having started this thread perhaps you should have continued to use it then everybody would know that lots of help had already been given concerning Walter James.

You could have added your new information to the old thread.

Thank you for your replys,
i know people have been kind enough to give me lots of help,
this is different information i have found today, and it only gets confusing when i add different info to the original thread, and people start looking for the wrong people as they have done, following other peoples info. and it all gets very confusing.
have tried to find him on census, but nothing really fits,
i dont know if Ada could be his mother sorry

Hi. Possible birth for Walter.
Registration in Pancras. 1899 Jan/March Qtr. vol 1b 6
With his given date of birth this is possible, as they had severl weeks to register births.
What was his Mothers name. Ethel.

kidsnpets Report 2 Oct 2008 21:30

Hi
Ethel,
thank you very much, this is the closest possible, as i believe he was born in the kentish town area, which comes under the borough of St Pancras, and the dates would add up.
The problem is i have know idea of his mothers name only his father Robert.

Battenburg Report 2 Oct 2008 21:46

Is it possible Robert Turner died in WW1? You could look for a death. Purely by accident I found a death for my grandmothers brother.
It mentioned his mothers name and she had remarried but used the sons surname as her middle name.

kidsnpets Report 2 Oct 2008 21:53

Hi
thanks for your reply
possible he died in the 1st world war, hadnt thought of that, not sure how or where i look for that,
would Walters marriage certificate, have shown if his father was in the army etc, instead of a Waterside Labourer?
thanks

Cant do it myself not puter literate. Can someone cut and paste the info from the other thread onto this one so there is a continuation

Battenburg

Battenburg Report 2 Oct 2008 21:57

The information on the marriage cert is only what people relate. Perhaps waterside labourer was considered his proper job .

Hi
thanks for all your replys so far,
i dont know how to paste the other thread to this,
also somebody started looking for James Turner as Walters Dad instead of Robert, so it all started getting confusing,
the other thread is called Remarried details please,
if you would like to look at that.
many thanks

Battenburg Report 2 Oct 2008 22:10

The member giving you James Turner as father might have done so because it wasnt unusual for people to use both names. He might be called Robert James but used James.

Especially if a son is also called Robert James. It stops the confusion

Hi,
i am trying to find my grandads, mothers remarriage details,
My grandad was Walter James Turner his father was Robert who died somewhere between 1898 (as that was when my grandad was born) and 1920,
i know his wife remarried someone TURVEY, and either he or there son was possibly called John,
all of this would be in the St Pancras area of London.
I know its a longshot,
but any help would be really appreciated as i am completely stuck.
many thanks

Roberts son Walter was born around 1898,
so if this is his father, he would of been in his 60s when he had Walter!

You might just have to accept you cannot go any further at present with this. My grandmother is a nursechild in 1891.Lodger with the same family in 1901.
I have her birth cert stating parents names . Her marriage cert giving her fathers name but no marriage for her parents or them on the census. No deaths either.
Her father was a photographer which I thought might help me but nothing shows up

So Walter James Turner married in St Pancras?. However he need not have been born there.
What was his fathers Roberts occupation from Walters marriage cert please so we can narrow it down?

My mother told me my grandmother was born in a place but I couldnt find her on the census in that place, or her birth. Her father had died before she married but her marriage cert gave his name and occupation. Found them in 1891

His fathers name is on his marriage certificate as Robert she did remarry later to someone called Tovey,
John Tovey is one of the witnesses on his marriage certificate, in 1920.
also rung the st pancras library with the address he gave on his marriage certificate, and he is living with Charles, Robert and Ada Tuvey, (not sure if Ada could be his mother) these are obviously his step family, and half brother/sisters.

Pam

Pam Report 2 Oct 2008 22:38

I have searched marriage records from 1898 to 1920 for a marriage for a Robert Turvey in London but not found one.

It is possible that Walter's father died when he was quite young and his mother lived with/married Robert Turvey...Walter would possibly have considered Robert Turvey his father.
