I am not sure how Edward James Woodlin Blake became a Blake.

He was born a Woodlin, no sign of Blake in 1889, then along comes a marriage in 1891 for Woodlin and Blake, Did Emma Jane get pregnant by him and for some reason he didn't get put on birth cert, or is he not the actual father, and he took him on? it's seems strange he has the same name.

There will prob be some bizaar transcription on the 1871!!

and yes that is the same Edward James Woodlin. I got hi marriage certificate yesterday and on it, it said Edward James Woodlin Blake, he then went on to drop the woodlin around the war time, and just went to Edward J W Blake. I can't find a Edward James Blake born the same time, so I assume this is him.

Nicki, I was really trying to find them in the 1871 census, but they seem to not be about and maybe isaac born in 1860 is John, it's about the same time frame.

Is this the birth you are referrring to two years before marrying again in 1891?

I cannot find a uk birth registration for the children, this could mean they were born abroad.... or born under another surname?

St Pancras is a fairly busy place and it's possible they lied about their origins?

I saw on the 1881 census they were both born in London, would this have been so if they were born elsewhere?, do you think they could have gone to another country after 1956 and then moved back in 1881?
