Can anyone help me, trying to trace Elisabeth Cunningham 1827c.She had a daughter called Mary Elisabeth 1860. I would Like to know the name of Elisabeths husband and whether they had any other children. I have found elisabeth on the 1901 census with 7 year old grandson, Mary"s son, William Stevenson.1884 registered at Basford, Notts. Thankyou. Julie.

So Cunningham is her married name not maiden?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 Sep 2008 15:26

If that's the correct one that Teri posted it says Elizabeth was born 1817. Also she's with 7 yr old grandson in 1891 not 1901.

I don't like to be picky, Julie, but you said in your original post that Elizabeth was born 1827, she was born 1817, you said that you found her in 1901 with 7 yr old grandson, that was 1891, you said daughter Mary was born 1860, she was born 1840.

Hi, margaret., yes, i madre a mistake with the 1901. I realise now it was 1891. My dad says william didnt live with his parents so its probebly him livingwith his gran aged 7. Mary 1860 is definite as I have seen the gravestone.MaryElisabeth Stevenson nee Cunningham married William Stevenson1864 and they are young williams mum and dad. they had 2 other boys bernard and harold..aswel as 7yr old william. it is unknown why he lived with his grandmother. does this help? dont think those others are the right ones. thanks. julie.

MargaretM Report 14 Sep 2008 17:30

That's really confusing then, Julie! I was sure that the Elizabeth that I was tracing back was the one in 1891 with grandson William Stevenson. Everything seemed to match except daughter Mary born 1840 not 1860.
Well, back to the old drawing board!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 Sep 2008 17:39

Is your William Stevenson the one born 1864, Radford? He's on the 91 census with his parents Joseph & Sarah A. It says he's married but no wife with him.

There's a Mary E. Stevenson who's living as a boarder with Sarah Griffin in Radford. Says born 1862 Radford but also says she's single.

Julie Report 14 Sep 2008 20:06

Yes i think you got them.! I bin with the Offilers. But things don"t quite add up !. My dad says William 1864 was a bit of a wide boy! so I dont suppose we guna get to the bottom of this.! But I"m satisfied you came up with the same "lot" ! thankx julie. ps do you think Sarah Griffin a Relative?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 Sep 2008 20:47

I don't know about Sarah Griffin. She was a single woman. maybe I'll try and trace her back to see who she is.
Gotta say, Julie, this is a very confusing family you've got! I can't find a marriage record of William Stevenson and Mary Cunningham.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 Sep 2008 21:00

1891 Sarah Griffin born 1868 Nottingham.
In 1881 she's a niece of Mary Dickinson, widow, 48, grocer, born Ireland, living in Radford.
Think I lost her in 71.

Julie

Julie Report 14 Sep 2008 21:32

Perhaps they never actually married! Mydad, who is 76 now, remembers them.(william1864 and Mary 1860) and saysthat his grandad william 1884 never livedwith them, like bernard and harold. They lived on breck hill road, arnoldnottm in their later years, before beingburied together in redhill cemetry, arnold. nottm. William 1884 is also buried nearby with his wifeAmy francis and the other sons bernard and haroldare their too.I know whrer they are now atleast! I think i will av to giveup andlook further upthe stevenson line now with sarah offiler and see where that takes me. Ihope that they are the right decendants of the stevenson line tho, thanks for your help. julie.

Hi Julie.
Have just has a look on the IGI and found a few things on your Offiler line. You may already have them but here goes.Family of Sarah born 1840.
Parents Samuel Offiler and Newton Morely, married 1836, couldn't find date. They had 6 children. George 1838, Sarah 1840, James 1842, Henry 1845, Elizabeth 1845 and David 1848.
Samuel was born 28-7-1812 at Basford, so were all the 6 children.Newton was born c 1814.Found another daughter Maria born June 1852 as well.

Samuels' family. Parents were David Offiler born c 1774 and Mary Campion born c 1778, they were married on 20th October 1799 at Trusley, Derbyshire and there were three children on record.
Edward born 10th July 1810. Samuel 28th July 1812 and Harriett born 29th July 1821.
I found this on the IGI and Ancestral file.
Hope it helps.
