Hi

Does anyone have the Somerset Parish records on disc? I have checked Somerset OPC with no luck

I am looking for any info on John Veale of Chew Magna abt 1797 (looking for marriage to Sarah) who moved to Bristol. Thought I would try here before buying the discs

Yes I have them all. Some were born in Chew Magna and a couple in Bristol. I believe Sarah was from Dundry. It is so annoying as it is 5 minutes up the road and thats where Bristol & Somerset (the old Somerset boundry) is.

There a few people with this tree on Ancestry and all stuck at the marriage! I thought i would just give it a go before buying the discs from BAFHS. Every time I buy discs my family seems to come from another city.

so have you been able to confirm her maiden name with one of their birth certs?

Forgot to say. I tried looking at Ancestry marriages but do not seem to have the access I use to have. Think they have changed what we can look at

No I haven't. I know you shouldn't take what other people tell you for gospel but one of the trees has a lot of info & fact on it (except birth cert) lol

It is a toss up between birth cert £7 or disc £8.50

I think unless i had a birth cert i would'nt feel i was 100% sure of correct mother if there is a possibility of other surnames

I notice one item they have is "Letters of administration of the estate of John Veale of Chew Magna, carpenter." dated 1846.

If you can't get to Taunton, they will provide copies of items by post for a reasonable fee and are very helpful on the phone.

have you tried bath bmd?it covers chewmagna also.although you'd need a child born after 1837.there is a Sarah born1848 but no mothers maiden name.
