Hi, I have just received a birth certificate for William. This shows that his parents were Thomas Metcalfe and Bessy Woods. This is not what I expected to see as their names have never come up on census returns with William. The only census returns I have found, show William living with his grandparents Richard Metcalfe and Mary in Ripon, along with his older sisters - Margaret, Mary and Jane. I thought, wrongly, that william was illegitimate. |

This is so frustrating, I was so sure that I had found William, living with his grandparents on the 1851 census now I can not find it. I am now beginging to question everything about my research. |

Hi Linda, thanks for the igi information - but I have already got this and have managed to go back quite away on Mary Metcalfes line, as Mary's mother is living with them in 1841 - Jane umpleby. |
