Lost for Words ;-) Report 26 Jul 2008 17:12

Hi Gilda

I wonder if that's why Rosetta left for Australia, perhaps dad had remarried and she didn't get on with her new stepmum who would have been the same age as her!

Regards
LfW

PS you should be tucked up in bed now and I have to go out so I'll take another look tomorrow (headache permitting!!).

Sorry Gilda, I shouldn't be so quick to jump in :-) It makes a change here in the UK we're baking in the mid 20s and it's lovely (wont last though!!). To send a private message just click on the name (underlined in blue). It might be worth looking for the rest of the family as I can't see them in the 1851 census. I know you said Rosetta travelled alone but perhaps she was following them. I think Iv'e found Frances death (will post below)

Hi LFW !
NO NO NO your POSTS are definitely NOT INVISIBLE - It's just that I wanted to say a bit more to you FOR ALL the information you sent me, so I left it till last to send you a message back. I am only new at this and not that FAST !! And it is after 12.30 AM here - and believe it or not - it's our "wintertime" and it's quite nippy in these wee hours of the morning, so I should be tucked up by now. I'm always getting into trouble by the "better half" when he finds me up at some god-forsaken hour "trying to find my ancestors" !! It's alright for him being English he knows "his" history but "us Aussies are only a couple of hundred years old" and we virtually know nothing of our past "relatives" !!
Hope to hear from you again for any kind of help with this "ancestry" thing.
How can one "send messages" without putting an "email address" over this section ?
Keep in touch, eh?
Thanks again,
Gilda

Gilda Report 26 Jul 2008 15:32

Hi "Lost for Words" !!
Well, you were not with me - "lost for words" I mean !!
Many Many thanks for all that information, it is just great !!
It just HAS TO BE my Rosetta as her name is unusual to start with along with the Basire !!
And to see the other names of her parents' and even her father's mother is terrific.
Also the marriage of Henry Basire and Ann Giles is such an extra bonus.
Well, I do know that Rosetta came to Australia - as mentioned - to Sydney and about a year after she arrived she married my great grandfather William Mapstone and was the mother of my grandmother. (Seems a great distance "in time" that I could have a grandmother back so far (whom of course I never knew) but my father was very very much older than my mother when she married him. Sorry I'm "rambling" now !!) Anyway back to Rosetta - the MARRIAGE Records on the NSW Registry show NO PARENTS' names - or on her DEATH Records either. I have often wondered why she never ever mentioned or named them ?
Thanks again "L.F.W." I am very grateful to you.
Kindest regards,
Gilda

Hi Kath,
Thank you for your message.
AND for the correct spelling BASIRE.
I have another message with ALL details of the whole FAMILY and it HAS TO BE RIGHT as ROSETTA BASIRE in itself is quite an unusual name.
Many thanks again,
Gilda

Gilda

Gilda Report 26 Jul 2008 15:05

Hi Tania,
Thanks so much for all that - yes the "i" must mean that the Basore surname is actually Basire - and it must be all correct as I have another message from someone else with the same details except the surname spelling is correct as BASIRE.
It can ONLY be my ROSETTA as the whole name is unusal to start with ie ROSETTA BASIRE !!
And even though I am Australian my husband is English (been out here nearly 30 years though) and he was born in MIDDLESEX like Rosetta !!
Many many thanks again,
Gilda
