She may not have liked the name Gertrude and always called herself Amy ??

David Report 30 Jun 2008 14:11

Perhaps she preferred Amy to Gertrude, I have an Aunt who hates her first name Phyllis and has used her middle name Mary her whole life. Most people don't know her first name, in fact I only found out when I started this tree business.

Lisa

Lisa Report 30 Jun 2008 14:06

THATS WHAT I SAID TO MY SISTER BUT SHE SAID THATMY NAN HASNT HEARD OF THE NAME GERTRUDE EVER BEIN MENTIONED SO IM NOT SURE BUT IT COULD BE A MAYBE

Lisa

Lisa Report 30 Jun 2008 14:05

David

David Report 30 Jun 2008 13:59

Dea

Dea Report 30 Jun 2008 13:27

Now!!

Do you KNOW that he was born on that date at that address or are you just taking this from the birth cert that you have??

Did he have a brother called Leonard born in 1921?

Dea x

Lisa

Lisa Report 30 Jun 2008 13:25

I DONT THINK SO OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT A 30 YEAR AGE GAP, ON HIS BIRTH CERT IT SAID THAT MARY WAS HIS MUM

David

David Report 30 Jun 2008 13:21

Could "AMY" have been your Grandad's older sister?

Or another scenario (which I have on my tree), was AMY his Mum, but his birth was registered by her parents.

Lisa

Lisa Report 30 Jun 2008 13:19

my grandfather was EDMUND GIBBS he was born 10TH MARCH 1920 he died 6TH JAN 1995 that is it, but i was told his mum was named AMY but i'v just found out it's not and it's MARY JANE

Dea

Dea Report 30 Jun 2008 13:16

O.K. - Let's start at the beginning ! - Which one was your grandfather and what do you know for certain about him?

Lisa

Lisa Report 30 Jun 2008 13:10

SAM
don't know when they were married, at 1st given wrong details, so did an utter wrong tree, according to my nan her knowledge was that my grnadfathers mum was called AMY so when i got his birth cert his mother was caleed MARY JANE PARKER but married a GIBBS but my nan said she met her twice and she called her AMY and even my grandfather called her AMY sometimes instead of mum. When my grandfather was born he was born in UPPER COTTAGES, MORETON JEFFRIES , HEREFORDSHIRE but MARY according to the 1901 census she was born in PENCOMBE
