Wow, WOW, and more WOW!!!!

Guys you are amazing. Some of the above i knew and you have confirmed my own research with extra sources, so thanks a heap. Other stuff I didn't know, so a huge thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Reggie - you have built an almost complete profile of the family - brilliant.
Chris from Sussex - What is the NA please. Is it national Archives?

The rest of you - thanks very much, it will take a day or two to assimilate all the info onto my tree.

Yes there is a connection, Carl Gilbert Hardebeck 1869-1945 known as the the Blind Bard of Ireland was the son of Carl Joseph Hardebeck with his first wife Mary Catherine Jones. His step mother Amelia Matilda Dyson apparently didn't want 'a blind wee brat about the house' and so he was packed off to a Blind School in Surrey before going to Ireland.

Hello Linda, and welcome to the boards.

Thanks for that info - I'm sure Christopher will be interested if he's checking back.

What a horrid woman that Amelia sounds. :-|

Hi guys,

Sorry to have been away from this thread for a few days (work commitments) and I forgot to mark the 'watched threads' box (now done).

Linda - you have hit the nail on the head. That info comes from something I read quite some time ago now. Carl Gilbert was indeed the son from Carl Joseph's first marriage, and tunrned out pretty well I think. No apologies from me about Amelia, and she hasn't done the image of step mothers any good at all by her actions.

Reggie - Gladys's father Alexander Dyson's siblings are known (especially Walter Frederick, as he brought up my grandfather as his own), but to date I have not been able to get any more information regarding their respective marriages, childrens details or deaths (Amelia and Arthur only).

Addendum

Reggie - sorry I get confused sometimes. It is true that Alexander Dyson has siblings Walter, Arthur and Amelia. Walter, I know a fair bit about. Arthur and Amelia, apart from thier names, nothing is known. ALSO, Gladys had (half) siblings Arthur and Amelia from her fathers second marriage to Ada Kendall/Smith. I also know nothing about these 2 people as mum never knew they even existed. according to her, Gladys father had died, whereas in fact, he remarried (wasn't that a surprise for her).
