South African Boat & 1891 census Help Needed

I am trying to find details concerning a Jane Hebberd (nee Sharp) b. 1865 Barrow, Suffolk. She left the UK for South Africa (u/k destination) between 1890 and 1892. She returned to the UK either in 1900 or early 1901, she is recorded in Bury St. Edmunds on the 1901 census. I´m not sure if she married before leaving for South Africa or after, though she did have a child born in England in 1890. I do not know her husbands christian name either (he is not with the family in 1901!). If anyone can find out his christian name I would be very thankful!
Could someone please check the 1891 census and see if they can find Jane on it?
I have a list of her children (from the 1901 census), all born in South Africa apart from Beatrice b. 1890 Risby, Suffolk.
The other children are Arthur b. 1892, Sidney b. 1893, Ellen b. 1895 and Dorothy b. 1900. Any information about these children would be very welcome.

Thanks
Mike

Is this Beatrice's birth?
Thingoe registration district covers Risby.

If this is the record of Jane and Beatrice leaving for South Africa, it will explain why they can't be found on the 1891 census.

Sue's info looks good - daughter's name checks, and son Arthur was born in SA. She seems to have travelled without a husband.

How do you know her birth name was Sharp?

Brilliant!
Well done and a massive thank you to Sue C, Jim S and Jim the F.
I´ve been a bit stuck with this family for a while. The name of Jane´s husband is a huge help to me. I can see he died in 1901. Can anybody find a death? How about a birth? (1837).

Again, many thanks to you all.

How do you know he died in 1901? Was Jane down as a widow on the 1901 census? Could he perhaps have died in South Africa......hence the return of Jane and the children to the UK?

Without knowing where Charles was born, a birth will be difficult to pin down.

Jane is classed as wife, not widow on the 1901 census.

What makes you think he was born c1837.

Sue C Report 5 Jun 2008 17:17

Wasn't the Boer War going on at around this time?

Maybe that was the reason for Jane and childrens return.

Michael

Michael Report 5 Jun 2008 17:19

I have his death from the information Jim Soton came with regarding the marriage.

birth
Jane Matilda Sharpe 1865 Apr-May-Jun Thingoe Suffolk
marriage
Charles James Hibberd 1889 Jan-Feb-Mar Pancras (1837-1901) London, Middlesex

I presumed the (1837-1901) bit was his life span! Or am I totally wrong? Of course it would make him pretty old to be running around producing children (though theoretically it could be done).
I have the 1901 census for Jane and she is classed as "married". If Charles is not dead then where on earth is he at? Still in South Africa? Anyone fancy trying to find him in 1901 or before?

Sue C - thats right, the Boer War was raging in the late 1890´s and parts of South Africa were very dangerous. The thought had crossed my mind that this could be the reason Jane and the children came back to the UK.

The 1837-1901 bit is for the that area of Pancras between those dates.

You really need to get the marriage cert to find out Charles, age, fathers name, occupation, etc.
