The 1837-1901 bit is for the that area of Pancras between those dates. |

Sue C - thats right, the Boer War was raging in the late 1890´s and parts of South Africa were very dangerous. The thought had crossed my mind that this could be the reason Jane and the children came back to the UK. |

I have his death from the information Jim Soton came with regarding the marriage. |

Wasn't the Boer War going on at around this time? |

Jane is classed as wife, not widow on the 1901 census. |

How do you know he died in 1901? Was Jane down as a widow on the 1901 census? Could he perhaps have died in South Africa......hence the return of Jane and the children to the UK? |

Sue's info looks good - daughter's name checks, and son Arthur was born in SA. She seems to have travelled without a husband. |

If this is the record of Jane and Beatrice leaving for South Africa, it will explain why they can't be found on the 1891 census. |

I am trying to find details concerning a Jane Hebberd (nee Sharp) b. 1865 Barrow, Suffolk. She left the UK for South Africa (u/k destination) between 1890 and 1892. She returned to the UK either in 1900 or early 1901, she is recorded in Bury St. Edmunds on the 1901 census. I´m not sure if she married before leaving for South Africa or after, though she did have a child born in England in 1890. I do not know her husbands christian name either (he is not with the family in 1901!). If anyone can find out his christian name I would be very thankful! |
