Hi, could somebody please try and help me make sense of this....My great grandmother was called Elizabeth Barrow b.1885 and her parents, according to her birth certificate were thomas barrow and jane dainteth. Elizabeth was born in Kinderton, Cheshire.
I then have a marriage certificate for Thomas Barrow (b.1859) and Jane Daintith (b.1860). They married in 1879 in Sandbach, Cheshire. Thomas' residence is Bradwall, Sandbach, and Jane's is Brereton, Sandbach- it does say she was domestic servant so im guessing she didnt live with her parents at the time.
Jane's father is named as William Daintith.
Im really struggling to find a birth certificate that i think could be Jane. Somebody on here found a christening for a Jane Dainteth in 1860 in Middlewich, Cheshire, father's name william and mothers name Anne.
There is then a census for 1871 that some kind person looked up for me that shows jane, age ten, and the rest of the family, father william age 50 and mother this time named as Mary age 36.
I'm confused now. Daintith seems a hard name to track down but not im not sure if her mother could be anne or mary.
Because of the age difference i wondered maybe if mary was williams second wife? Jane appears to be the eldest child.
Im just confused now!

Thanks again Siobhan! That helps, I wonder why i cant find a birth for Jane. Maybe i could try and find one for Mary Ann.

Hi,

The chtistening you referred to for Jane 1860 with mother Ann, was for 9 May 1860 Middlewich,Cheshire.(IGI) The surname was spelt DaintEth.

There are a numder of Daintith in the warrington area.

Thanks Ron. I just wondered if the surname had been spelt wrong/different. I suppose if they were born in warrington they could have ended up in sandbach/middlewich couldnt they?

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 09:55

Thanks Christina, that could be her, i've never seen her as emily anywhere else but i suppose she could use her middle name

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 09:55

Could be Elouise, thanks, is that for 1860?

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 09:56

On the census, if it says she was born in middlewich, could she still have been in warrington do you think?

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 09:58

Can anyone see a marriage for william? maybe if he was married in warrington that might explain why jane was born there.

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:01

Great thanks elouise

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:02

What year is that marriage for?

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:16

Ah so they married after Jane was born. Maybe jane did have a different mother and she died. Maybe thats where Anne comes in

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:17

Yes those years seem right, going with the 1871 census

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:18

It says jane's father was a labourer. Thomas and jane have signed the certificate and then two other signatures, one is joseph and the other is jane. I cant make out the surnames at all. Jane's looks like yewman?

Hannah

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:20

Thats true Elouise...i didnt think of that!
Jane's father is 14 years older than her mother/mary so i wondered if it was him that married before. I cant seem to find a death though for an Anne daintith or another marriage for william.

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:23

Hannah Report 11 May 2008 10:36

I wonder why he isnt there. Maybe i need to send off for the birth certificate that i think might be jane and that might make things clearer. Thanks everyone for your help!
