Find Ancestors

Hi everyone who has been trying to help with this. Thankyou for all your work on my behalf.
I now have Florences marriage records,and found that she was born ,married, and died here in the UK. !!!!!!!
Had wrong information given from rellies before , but now have it sorted.

Oh Rose, thankyou. I will check those out against what I have been finding now ,here in UK.
I think I have found a marriage for her to John GRAY, in the Army returns, and if that is correct then I think I have them on the Queen Mary sailing out of Southampton, to New York 31/3/1948. I will let you know what I get from the birth cert/and marriage cert if I can find out how to get one from the army records.?

I just want to say that last night/morning I spent hours trying to find her.
I did come up with some possibilities eg I found a marriage for a Florence m to THORPE sep.1932 Barton I. and then tried that in america ssd index and got a `hit` in California which was very close but not quite!
just wanted you to know I have been trying but my free subs for Ancestry have run out now and I have run out too. I am getting nowhere so needed better than me to try and sort it out.
Thankyou and I will try to stay a little longer but am very tired now

Yes, she might have had a 'professional' name...

...and she could well have travelled on that name....

You need an Equity card to be able to work in the performing arts.... whether it's dance or acting and anything inbetween. Your Equity card means you register your name, so if another person comes along and they have the same name they will have to choose another one, hence the reason you get 'Stage Names'. Harry Webb/Cliff Richard, Elton John/Reginald Dwight.


What is Equity?

Equity is the trade union which represents those who work in the entertainment and arts industries. It represents not only actors but also dancers, singers, choreographers, backstage artists such as stage managers, designers and directors as well as walk-on and supporting artists and stunt performers.

Equity is not political but it is affiliated to the Trades Unions Congress as a means of bringing performers' issues to a wider audience.

The main function of Equity is to negotiate minimum terms and conditions of employment throughout the world of entertainment, including new and emerging technologies which affect performers - satellite, digital television, new media and so on.

An Equity card is still regarded by many to be a proof of commitment and professionalism, and if you are a member you can often negotiate a better rate of pay than a non-Equity member. Many employers still choose Equity performers over non-Equity, although a card is not essential for some areas of performance or working in the arts industry.

Its possible yes that she may have travelled around with her dancing.
The only thing I know for sure is her date of birth,occupation and that she definately emmigrated !! I`m so sorry to ask at this time in the morning especially as it is a very difficult one

Do you have her exact date of birth? I could look for deaths in the US using just her first name if you do.

I've gone through to 1941 and i cannot see her....

It is of course possible as a dancer she had to change her name to get an equity card?

I believe she married before emmigrating as I could not find her on passenger lists for USA ( nor could the ones on here who tried to help me ).
