Hi all, I have both asked for help and given it on here I feel that I have something to offer to this thread.
As I am always anxious to see the results of my asking for help, I just have to check over and over again. I agree that it can be disappointing when you look for information and give it on here and hear nothing back, so that you don't know if the person who asked for the help has seen it or if the information was correct. I am lucky that as I have subscriptions my look ups have not cost me any extra money but I can imagine that must be awful when you have spent additonal money and the person does no acknowledge the help at all.
You are all so very helpful and I am always so greatful for everything you do so please take this as a big thank you.

I don't mind at all spending my time, but when I spend my money doing look ups on SP for people who don't come back to their threads it does kind of annoy me. It won't stop me doing them though :-))

Stephanie I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that we are talking about people asking for help.

I have asked for a assistance a couple of times & always stayed around not only in case there are questions but because I can't wait to see of another pairs of eyes can help me.

isn't that part of the reason the forums are on here so you can post something and come and check for a reply later if you haven't got time to hang around, otherwise we might as well be using chatrooms....

How strange Jill..that the incident you are posting about just so happen to be me,

like Claire says to wait ½ or even 10 mins isn't long

Jill

Jill Report 22 Apr 2008 16:27

i think we did this not so long back,
a woman who cares for her husband asked for help on here and then had to leave as her husband needed her and when she returned to her thread someone had left a comment about not hanging around for answers,(she was really upset) things happen and some people cant always answer straight away, its one of those things.
i thought we were here to help if we can something we enjoy doing when we have time.
if i look up something and dont get a reply, its not really my lose and it doesnt really worry me. theres so much more to worry about in this world.

I agree Julie, we all have busy lives. If someone is asking for help then they should choose a time when they can stick around for 1/2 hour & if something crops up there is nothing to stop them saying that they have to go.

Same has happened to me Joan..they don't come back then thats there lost not mine

say like....If some asked to borrow something from me & they don't come to get it, i ain't chasing them to give it to them

Julie, that's true but there are times that I have posted messages here and have come back--and no one replied to my message.

It's just a courtesy and it only takes a few minutes to PM them directlyl. Aren't we here to help others? What if they don't have computer access on a daily basis?

Julie

Julie Report 22 Apr 2008 14:34

But its not down to me to remind them to come back a check though

Joan

Joan Report 22 Apr 2008 13:55

I PM the individual to let them know that you have found some information for them (in case they had to leave the board) out of courtesy. Many people work out of their homes, have children to tend to or just go and do something else on the computer.

Upon their return they usually will PM back.

Thanks Jim. I will use that in future but may take ages to find my posts in the ones that are already on there.

Does anyone know how to remove threads from My Threads. I have some where I have posted on one where the person os very kindly looking for lots pf people. I copy my answers into another document but the Thread keeps appearing and getting in the way of threads I have posted myself.

I agree that everyone here is so kind and helpful. i would not have found out half the information I have without the kindness and generosity of the members.

Very true Jim, if you don't get a reply after a while, try again regularly. You can do this very easily by pressing "My Threads" in the little yelllow box on the left of the screen.

Thelma

Thelma Report 22 Apr 2008 11:10

The other side of this is people who stick around for a few hours but then leave and never come back. Not all answers are given straight away.
