Hi,

There is always the possibilty that the age given at marriage was incorrect.

I know when my grandfather was born but when obtaining his marriage certificate he had stated that he was 6 years younger than he was. I have been able to establish that the marriage cert is my grandparents and also that his date of birth is correct.

No there is not just that they lived in Studley. I am wondering if Lizzie came from Coventry originally as Watchmaking was big on Coventry and how on earth would she have known about Betsy Ann Parker unless she had known her when she was younger?

Is there an address for Lizzie on the marriage cert? An address search of the 1881 census might bring up something

Sorry not been in touch. Thanks for looking at it again so late last night. I had by that time signed off and only just found the time to sign back on.

I agree that the birth cert must be wrong but I cannot find a Lizzie Parker, unless as you say her birth was not registered.

Maybe I should look for her father, John Parker, and back track. As I know he was a watchmaker and presumably lived in the Warwickshire area maybe I can find him and then look for wife and children.

The marriage in 1889 took place in Studley.........the registration distict for Studley was Alcester.

The birth reg'n for Betsy Jane was in Coventry district............so she was not born in Studley.

This, I think, confirms that the birth cert is not that of the woman who married Wiliam Lancaster..........

Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875................

Val, Yes it does say that she was a spinster and there are no other names listed for her on the certificate. I do not have Florence's birth certificate but if you look at previous post I do have one for her sister Ethel who was born in 1902.

I have looked for Lizzie parker before and have had no luck finding her. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Yes that is them but althought I can follow William back I cannot follow Lizzie back any further,

Anyway really must go now whill check back when I get back home

How do I know which is correct? Should I follow the birth certificate as you have been. Or should I be looking using the marriage certificate?

I have to take my boys to their swimming lesson now but will check back when I get back home.

I am really grateful for all the info you have already found. Can I be really cheeky and ask if you could try following the marriage certificate route and see if you can find anything because I've not had any luck before.

There is no certainty that that is the right birth cert. It was acquired purely to get a pension.
My grandmother used a christening to get her pension but although we have the church there is no christening.We assume the vicar took pity and gave a false declaration.

Their daughter was called Ethel Lancaster born 13 November 1902. Father William Lancaster a Needle Stamper, and Lizzie Lancaster formerly Parker. They lived at Littlewood Green, Studley, Warwickshire.

What I cannot understand is that if Lizzie was 22 when she got married, as per the marriage certificate, she must have been born in 1867. So why does the birth certificate she sent off for say that she was born in 1864?
