Another problem :)

My grandmother was orphaned in India, brought to scotland with Dr Barnados around 1920, she returned to india in her teens marrying my british grandfather and returning to England. All I have is her maiden name, and not sure of the spelling 'Philburn'

Can anyone advise me on where i could find any info for her, a long shot i know, i always seem to draw a blank with her. I know she was the youngest of what is thought to be 15 children.

Many thanks
Debby xxxx

What was your grandmother's christian name? What was your grandfather's name and when, approximately, did they marry? If you don't know the marriage date, approximately when was their eldest child born?

do you know when your grandmother was born, or roughly how old she was when she was orphaned and/or brought to Scotland?

Thank you for your replies,

Christian names were Margeret Magdeline
D.O.B 21st April 1913

Don't know when she married my grandfather JOHN LEON BARRON D.O.B. 25th December 1910 but i know they met whilst he was serving in India with the British army.

Their eldest child was born in approx 1939.

We believe she was brought to Scotland With Dr Barnados when she was about 4 years old, returning to India to work as a governess in her teens.
She returned to London, Tottenham to be exact (where my grandfather was born) to marry him, i remember her telling the story of her travelling alone by boat.
Also just remembered her story of a large earthquake in India that she experienced.

Also know that there is a possiblity that she was orphaned along with a cousin, his name being Herbert. Dont know if this was a real family connection or if they just 'found' each other within Dr barnados.

Many thanks

I do have lots of info on John barron, birthplace, parents grandparents, but have never found any info linking him to my nan margeret, e.g marriage.
John stayed in the army till his later years and they travelled around alot i know, but they began their married life with his mother Rose nee grout in Seven Sisters Rd Tottenham East London.
I have often questioned if they married after the birth of my uncle who was born approx 1939, don't know why i can only put it down to gut feeling.

what's your uncle's name?

maybe if we can find his birth registration, and you get his birth certificate ............ that could help solve some of the problem!

What about your uncle Brian? Is he still alive? I don't see a death for him on Ancestry.
