You might want to have a look at http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/index.html which gives some BMD info specifically for Lancs. It is useful as it gives the actual spouses on marriages rather than the choice of 4 which you get from the actual BMD indexes

Right, the info i have is this -

Joseph Turner born - abt 1844 in Earby, Yorkshire.
Jane Ann Greenwood born - abt 1852 in Waterfoot, Lancashire.
Both were cotton weavers (i think). They married in 1873 JFM Qtr in Burnley.

Their children were -
John T Turner born abt 1875 at 5 Brief Street, Burnley
Alice Turner born abt 1877 at 5 Brief Street, Burnley
James Turner born abt 1878 at 5 Breif Street, Burnley
Charles Turner born abt 1883 at 83 Burnley Road Briercliffe
Joseph Turner born abt 1890 at 83 Burnley Road, Briercliffe.
I know that John was a Scholar and Charles was a cotton weaver.
Charles married Hannah Hollins (all at beginning of thread).
Anyway that's all i know, I just can't find anything on Charles brothers or sister. I need to work my way back to the present now as i'm trying to find living relatives.
Any more info would be great as i'm stuck again, i've search so much i don't know where else to look.

sorry to be a pain, but i have found charles in the 1901 census, so why can't i find him in the birth records? any ideas?

I've found charles turner in the census - it matches the home address i have on josephs birth cert - 83 burnley road, briercliffe, burnley. charles was born in 1883, so he was around age 46 when he had joseph, i just wasn't thinking that far back. thanks for all your help everyone.

if he was born around 1890 chances are he will be a scholar on the 1901 census

If you can get the marriage cert to find out his father names will be easier to try and locate him on the census

It means how old he is

I have done a search on charles turner and found one born in burnley in 1890. I know from Josephs birth cert that charles was a cotton weaver.
I paid the 5 points to look at the census and it said last birthday age 11, what does this mean? does it mean he died at that age? i'm very confused with all this, but i'm really enjoying it! lol!

Ooh, now that's interesting!! I wasn't thinking about going that far back because that means she would have been around 36 years old when she had Joseph and I didn't think it was the norm to have children that late back then.

Thanks everyone for your help, I think i will have to order the marriage certificate to find out. I believe it to be Hannah and Charles in Burnley because their sons were born in Burnley too. The eldest son Joseph might be my dads or his sisters dad! It's very confusing because my dad was adopted.

found a marriage for Hannah and Charles in Burnley oct q 1919 unfortunately it doesn't give a middle inital on the index, so that's not much help

update, Andy has found Hannah A so looks like the other one is yours

Hannah A married in Stoke in 1921, so thats probably her out of the reckoning

Marriage cert should tell you names ages occupations, plus fathers names ans occupations.

I'm just having a look at the marriage indexes see if I can find which one married Charles

Thanks, i'll try that. What exactly will the marriage cert tell me? will it have her middle name or initial cos if it at least has that then i would know, i hope!!

When i researched this a few months back i came upon an address for Hannah Allerton Hollins but i have'nt got a clue how i got it!! So because of this i'm more swayed to this person.
