HI

I have managed to trace my great great grandparents, however, In the 1901 census it has got my great great grandfather down as being 33 years old. All very well, however, in the 1891 census-10 years earlier, it has him down as being 26, there is only a 7 year difference...

How do I know what is right? (without having to apply for certificates etc etc)

thanks

emma

James Hayes married to Annie Hayes in 1891. The only child they had then was James.

Then in 1901 there was, the above plus, Edith, Harry and Amie

Do you need any more?

Ok Linda, fair enough I spose, but like you say, they look to have just got it wrong on one of them.

How would I now go about finding out about Annie, the spouse. Obviously, I don't know her maiden name, so can't go on that, and I'm guessing she is born in 1871, as her age seems to have changed correctly with the census?

Any tips at all please?

How can I find out if these are right??

Carmen

Carmen Report 16 Mar 2008 20:57

All I can suggest is trial and more trial, keep looking at all the possibles, and eliminate the ones that dont tick all the boxes for you, if the folks are in the places that you expect them to be living, with the right partners and the right children- look for unusual names that often helps.Although all the rules dont necessarily fit every time you get a feel for it, a kind of 6th sense.Look at all the possible censuses, the BMD's, cross reference the names, and if most of it fits , then possibly you are there Good Luck anyway Carmen
