Val,

I'm having problems with Ancestry where a page comes up but the members of the family are coming up with another surname.

But I found these families living together--there is a Joseph, son of Thomas and a Joel, son of Henry that were born abt. the same time.

Sorry Joan I must be really stupid today as I don't understand the info you have given me . I really appreciate your help. All these bishopstone references all tie in with the holder of the medal that started all this but not how my friend (who is a Baker) came to have it in his possesion.

Val, it appears that all these Baker families may be related. You may never know how that medal got into your friend's hands. My cousin inherited some large portraits of some of my ancestors through her paternal grandmother--she's a third cousin to me. It's probably because her grandmother inherited the portraits from her mother who was the eldest daughter residing in the same area when the original owners of the portraits had died. They were also my great great grandparents (but my great grandfather moved away and didn't inherit anything from the family home). These are pieces of the puzzle we'll probably never find out.

Good luck!

Joan

Thanks joan and all you kind people who helped me. It's another unsolved mystery that we have to accept. Genealogy is a very fraustrating hobby as you get more questions than answers. I have at least established that the medal came down through the Baker line as it was in another name so at least that is fact even if we cannot establish the connection to it. Once again many thanks Val
