Hi. I have all the relevant birth, marriage and family details of this chap who emmigrated from Brighton to Sydney Australia in the 1880's. I am trying to find out when he emmigrated (can find no record) and about his life here before he got married (married Amelia Victoria TIPPETT in 1889). I am trying to confirm a family story that he was a 'lead violinist' playing in Gilbert and Sullivan productions in Australia before he got married, but on the last cencus that he appears on (1881 Brighton) he is listed as a 'plumber'!

Would greatly appreciate any information.

Scott.

P.S. If you are seeking info about his life in Oz, perhaps put Australia in your title to attract helpers :)

Hi Quoy, yes, I am aware of that site - thanks.

Ann: thanks for your input; I have that cencus.

Cherilyn: yes I have seen that entry, but going by his birth certificate (b.Mar 1858) he has to be 27, more probably 28 years of age - but I will investigate further (could be a 'typo'?). Thanks for your tip as well, I will try to put it into an Australian context...(I need to find some Australian relatives who may know about his early life here).

Scott, ages on immigration lists are often inaccurate, usually by 1 or 2 years, but sometimes more.

Always going to be a challenge with SMITH though!
