Hi Samantha,
OK-James CHURCH. When you get his marriage certificate it may or may not bear out the theory that he's the son of Beaumont and Sarah CHURCH-born circa 1834 in Offton,Suffolk.
In 1841 he and a younger brother,William are enumerated all by themselves:
Name: James Church

However, the address for this one is also Potash.

Age: 35

Where born: Suffolk, England
Civil parish: Great Bricett

1851 James and an Anne M CHURCH are working as farm servants:

Hi Maureen

You are really good at doing this, going back further. Because of my lack of understanding about going further I gave up at this point on my MN.

You have been a star with all the help you are giving me, I really do appricate it, I wish I was able to understand going back to this point.

Samantha

Hi Samantha,
I'm sorry. That was just my pathetic attempt at making a "pregnant joke"-i.e.you're good at getting this far but going back further .........Never mind (ROFL is rolling on the floor laughing).

It IS difficult going back pre-census and registration. After you get Elizabeth's birth cert and determine that Susan and James are indeed her parents, this may help:

I'll post suspects in my next message.

Hi Maureen

Yeah I think that I will stop at 3 children, Im quite happy with that number.

I know I have been doing this on and off for a yr of 2 but i really dont understand everything still, and going back further then the 18 centries is not my strong area, the same for the death record, i know that sounds silly.

may i ask what does ROFL stand for?

If SPALL seems right then that the next certificate I shall order.

Thankyou for you time it does mean alot

Regards
Samantha

"I am good at getting to this stage but going back even further, I am just useless.
" quote
ROFL
You'd think that the third one would give you a clue !
Back to gene:
SPALL does seem to be the maiden name.

Potty Report 11 Sep 2009 16:19

Daughter-in-law on a census often meant Step-daughter, so Elizabeth could be the daughter of Susan's first marriage to a Mr Church. There is quite a gap between her and the next child.

When I looked (quickly) at the 1911,it seemed as though Elizabeth Smith in Lewisham was born in Hollesley,so I think this must be the same Elizabeth Church.

She's a single servant in Lewisham in 1891.
