I am trying to help my partner research his fathers family but we have hit a brick wall at his grandfather Charles William Simmonds Born Westbury on Severn c Sept 1870 who was married to Dorcas Nunney born Abinghall, Westbury on severn Gloucestershire approx Feb1867 if anyone can shine a light on this I would be most grateful.

Sorry Pam and all for not getting back sooner I havent used this area of GR before and I hadnt realised this is where I had put the question till I got your message through the normally messaging system - sorry I am an idiot!

Thanks for all your help, you have extended what I know a little and filled in a few gaps which is wonderful.

I took a months subscription on Ancestry over Christmas and while I managed to get quite a bit of information about some of my family I was beginning to think a some of my our ancestors had a thing against census forms because I couldnt find anything about at least three branches of the family at all.

I am amazed at how quickly you guys have succedded where I failed! I still dont know where I went wrong but I am very grateful for your help.

Rosina Simmonds below is a mystery as I tried FreeBDM (thanks for that) but couldnt find a BDM record for her anywhere and as far as the family knew Charles ony had one wife Dorcas ( I asked and was told he had one wife and a number of brothers so perhaps there is a link elsewhere).

I am not sure about Chas and Ann on the 1881 census, that is the only census I currently have access to and mine shows him as a Cab driver when we thought the family were coal miners but I wont discount it yet since now we have the reference then when we can afford it we will get a copy of my spouses grand fathers marriage certificate since that will give us a better indication - so thanks for that.

The 1911 census is curious as well since it mentions family members we hadnt heard of but doesnt include my spouses dad Fred who was born in 1908 or Freds brother Bert (Albert )born 1901 both of whom my spouse clearly remembers in Cinderford so that needs further investigation.

but again no Albert or Fred and no sign of Rosina though if she was 12 in 1901 she would probably be doing her own thing by 1911.

I've been back through all this but couldnt find the birth reference you mentioned for her in the message you sent me Pam; am I looking in the wrong place??

Fred full name Frederick Aaron Simmonds was born in East Dene Gloucestershire on 26th November 1908 he died in Coventry on 22 Aug 1964. He married twice (I know the first wife passed away but I dont know anything else about her or her name) but his second wife was my spouses mum Winifred Irene Greaves.

My spouse remembers going to Cinderford with his parents to visit his dads family including his uncle Bert and his children while his sister remembers visiting grandma Simmonds who had an uncle Ron still living with her.

My spouses Grandfather was shown as William Charles Simmonds on Freds marriage cert and as Charles William Simmonds (where he was shown as a Collier) on Freds birth cert . He married Dorcas Nunney on Mar 27 1948 in Coventry.

I think the 1901 family of

Since I have found an Alfred Williams and an Alice May in the family but I am not sure why the two younger brothers , Albert Henry and Frederick Aaron are not shown.
