Find Ancestors

Hello I am trying to find information on my grandfather Thomas Roddy, He was born around 1900 I think, and went on to marry a Mary Chadwick, they had 2 kids Colin and Joyce, I dont know much about my fathers side and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know approx when they married and what area are they from?

I think the Leigh area, they may have married about 1933 ? thats about when they had their first child , her name was joyce, my father colin their son was born in leigh, lancashire and thomas may have had a sister named mary. I know its not much is it im extremely frustrated with the info.

We need to find the marriage first and then you can get the cert which will give you their ages and then work back from there.

There is a Thomas Roddy born 1902 in Prescott, Lancashire but wihout the cert for his age it's only a guess.

It's difficult to go any further without his actual age and father's name as there area lot of Roddy's in the Lancs area in 1901.

Do you have any idea when he died or if he had siblings?

no but i think he died after 1970 cause his first wife died about then and he remarried quickly

This is possibly more likely as it's in Leigh but again it's a guess.

I dont think so i just rang my mum and she said he died within about 12 months of his first wife in the late sixties or early seventies but he managed to remary in that short time and maybe died of a heartattack in a laneway the dont seem to even know where he was buried

I've just been reading the other thread abot Mary Chadwick and saying you were short of money for buying certs, could you persuade your mum to get the birth cert for you ,lol.

There is also this marriage but again it's a guess

Lancs BMD has the spouse as Anne Reynolds.

There are no Thomas Roddy's living in Leigh in 1901 so it looks as if you're going to have to get a cert to get any further back as you could be tracing the wrong family.

No mum and Dad hate giving out their credit card details which I understand in this day and age with all the stories you hear. And I dont have one as we are doing the gypsy thing around Australia in a caravan and got rid of all our financial trapings, and you always seem to need a credit card with these things dont you? but God I love this family tree thing and I finally have a bit of a sense of belonging. Being born in Australia and all relatives living in England I have always felt displaced while my friends had auntiea uncles grandparents and cousins I just had mum and dad there no feeling of roots there,
