I am looking for any information on Mary Ellen Marshall, such as parents or siblings. I know she married my Gt Grandfather Fred Crossland in Sheffield in 1893 and they had several children whilst still living in Sheffield. Mary Ellen's birth was registered Jun 1878. I know that on the 1901 and 1911 census records they were living at 9 Albion Street Sheffield. |

Anne, I am sure there were replies on that other thread too. I think that is where the census information came from! Now someone will go looking for it again just for reference. |

What detail do you require as the information I got on the 1901 and 1911 census report was given to me on sheffieldindexers and ancestory. |

Nichola if you could post the 1901 census as I am having difficulty finding it on Ancestry. If we could see it we may be able to trace Mary Ellen further back - if that is what you are looking for. |

I think there has been a fatal mix-up here and it should be Mary Ellen Turner we are looking for |

Somebody has checked the 1911 census for me and they have Fred and Mary Ellen as been married for 17yrs which would mean that Fred Crossland married Mary Ellen in 1893 and that was the marriage listed for Mary Ellen Marshall. The marriage listed in 1896 was between another Fred Crossland who was born in Barnsley and he married Mary Ellen Turner. I have got really confused as the 2 names and dates are so close together. |

OK then I wonder if (given the 1901 location of Nether Hallam) if this the Mary Ellen you are looking for |

Nichola, what information is on you parent's birth certificate? Does it give Mary Ellen's maiden surname please? Also what is Fred's occupation on that certificate? |

Mary Ellen was my Gt Grandmother, she was my grandfather Walter Crossland's Mother he was born in 1910 and I don't have his birth certificate. I think I will have to send for some certificates after all. |

I think that you are right Nichola, send for Walter's birth certificate then you are working from facts. Without that certificate you could spend a lot of time and effort tracing the wrong Fred and Mary Ellen. |
