Looking for John McIntosh born Dumfries about 1853 Father also called John McIntosh according to his marriage certificate one of the witnesses was a Jemmina McIntosh could be his mother or sister.Not having much luck on Scotlands People I'm afraid.Can anyone out there help me.?

Was he married in Scotland?
If so when please.
Marriage certs normally have both parents names on in Scotland.

I am sorry Susan but without a little more info,
like who he married,
when,
his fathers occupation etc
I cant even find him on english census to get a grip on him to try and help,there are just so many to choose from.

He was married in Everton in 1877 to a Sarah Jones I have found him on the 1881 census living in Kirkdale Lancashire.He also appears on the 1901 census living at Pratley street Manchester.l have a death certificate he died in 1915 aged 62 years still living in Manchester occupation corn miller.

On the marriage certificate it says father John McIntosh deceased. His occupation was also a miller.

So we have another spelling of the surname!
Other than the various on census 1881 /91 and 1901..

a terrible thing to do in those days to abandon your wife and family.Looks like it was true.John McIntosh my G grandfather left Dumfries in a hurry and was supposed to have got some girl pregnant l wonder if the grand daughter Elizabeth Howat aged 10 months on the 1871 census is that child.l don't suppose l will ever know for sure.
