Brian, the answer really is in that thread.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1180798

Paula posted the 1849 marriage of Hannah Tannnatt to Evan Herbert. !

I have now given you the 1850 death of Evan Herbert.

Since David Herbert in 1851 is nephew of Thomas Tannatt, the obvious hypothesis is that his mother is a Tannatt.

Searching at FreeBMD for a marriage between a Tannatt and a Herbert finds you only that one.

Paula, on the 1851 Census there is a Thomas Tannatt, (traced back from the information you have all supplied me with) living in the same house as a Hannah Herbert aged 25 and seemingly with a one year old son called David Herbert. I'm trying to work out the relationship between the Herberts and Tannatts. If Thomas was her brother who was she married to? someone called Herbert I'm presuming.?
Sorry I started a new thread earlier, when I shouldn't have done so.

Best Regards
Brian

GR do not hold the records that you pay for through them, they redirect you to other sites,so you are better off paying elsewhere for records
You will find that one on Ancestry or Find my past or Family search,, for free ,,as all 1881 census are free.

If you are in Family history for the long haul then I would advise subscribing to Find my Past or Ancestry.
Ancestry give a 2 week free trail,if you take that out and remember to cancel before the time is up you can search 24/7 on it to your hearts content.
I personally could not do without it for my family history.
But then I am well and truly bitten with the bug!

Hi Viv again

What I also meant to mention, I can't find on Genes Reunited
the Elizabeth Tannatt aged 15 born 1866 with a father called Evan, is it possible I'm not using it properly or do some geneology sites differ with regard to what information they have? I am a fully subscribed member and should be able to find her.

What I am saying is that there is a high probability that the 1881 Elizabeth Tannatt aged 15 with father Evan is her,BUT you will never know for sure that it is her unless you buy her 1884 marriage cert to Charles Roberts to prove it with the fathers name on said certificate..
It would also of course prove that Charles father was also a Charles and you are follwing the right family there..

Without some certs you can easily go barking up someone elses tree.
But of course that is your choice.

I could not tell you if she has a middle name, all I can say is that there is not one listed on her marriage ref nor on the 1881 census for her.

For £7 and about a 7 days wait all the IFS ,BUTS AND MAYBES will be taken care of.

from here, just tick the "yes"box where it asks if the GRO refs are known.

www.gro.gov.uk.

If you get it or rather ,when you get it, then come back here and I will willingly help you on going further back if you want with any of the family.
But without it it is all guesswork
But as I said earlier, that is your choice of course.

Hi Vivien

On the marriage 1884 showing Charles and Elizabeth Tannatt,
are you saying she is the Eliz' born 1866, Census for 1881 aged 15 with a mother also called Elizabeth.? also do you have a middle Christian name for her?

Many Thanks
Brian

And it looks as though Evans widow may have married again, there is no death showing for her between 1881 and 1891 nor do I see her on the 1891 census.
