On looking at the org image Sarah is a widow,William is said to be her son married to Edith ,so I am assuming William was born out of wedlock before Sarah married Mr Place.

Susan Report 18 May 2009 04:17

Hi Lisa
It is very probable that Sarah was known as Sall short for Sarah, seeing as we can't find a birth for a sally.
Nowadays she would have been called sar's for short as that is what happens here in OZ.Regards Susan

If we lookup 1920q3 marriages for Wigan (or any place), we find very few are transcribed (only 0% transcribed so far).
Marriages Sep 1920 (0%)

However, we can view images at:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
and find
1920q3 p=c217/b108
Carter, Albert E Bibby Wigan 8c 145
Bibby, Margaret A Carter Wigan 8c 145

The GRO isn't the only place one can buy their m.cert - one can also buy it from Wigan RO, and the local index is partially online at:
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/
so we find:

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1920
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
CARTER Albert Edward BIBBY Margaret Alice St. Wilfred,Standish Wigan & Leigh C28/6/408

Unsurprisingly, for an event so recent, there's nothing at:
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Standish/StWilfrids/index.html
(For St. Wilfred, Standish, Marriages are available between 1653 and 1840.)

Since your Emanuael seemed to have a nice name, I looked him up on LancsBMD, which also gives the sub-district they were rego'ed in.

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1880
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
BIBBY Emanuel Standish Wigan & Leigh STND/22/72
BIBBY Mary Ellen Standish Wigan & Leigh STND/22/233
BIBBY William Standish Wigan & Leigh STND/22/101

Emanuael was rego'ed 1880q1 and Mary Ellen 1880q3, so there were at least 3 Bibby families in Standish having kids in 1880. This would make it awkward to look for births and matching deaths to explain the big gap in Andrew and Jane's kids showing in 1881. Of course, some of the ambiguity could be resolved by checking the parish records at Preston, or renting the LDS film to view at one of their FH Centres.

There is some discrepancy between Lancs OPC, and the LDS FHL entry:
Note Location Film
Baptisms and burials 1560-1900 Marriages 1560-1792 Baptisms (District of Crooke) 1859-1866 FHL BRITISH Film 1526140 Items 3-15
Marriages 1792-1900 Burials 1813-1900 FHL BRITISH Film 1526141
