I am trying to trace a Ada Gillam who married a Robert Barratt 1920 Rugby. Its very difficult as I do not know where or when she was born. All I know is they had 3 children Avis, Christolene and Robert all born Rugby. She left home when the youngest was 7 (around 1935). She may have remarried under the name of Gillam or Barratt. Any help would be appreciated. I only have her name from one of the childrens birth certificates (my mother in law)

Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane, you will need to purchase the marriage certificate to ascertain her age and her father's details.

Your best bet would be to apply for the marriage cert. which will give you her father's name and occupation and a link to the census:

4th qtr 1920 Gillam, Ada Barratt Rugby 6d 1741

Diane

If she married in Rugby Warks I would guess this one could be her birth.

Ada Gillam
Year of Registration: 1895
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Kidderminster
County: Hereford and Worcester, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 6c
Page: 236

All the other possibles are either too young or died young.

As for remarrying.... another guess would be she would have used her married name Barratt.

Mind you! she maynot have married! but lived in sin (as they used to call it) Divorce was and is very expensive.

To get her age, heres her 1st Marriage details but it means parting with £7...

Ada Gillam 1920 quarter 4
Rugby
6d-1741
Spouse 'Barratt'

You can buy certs on line here...it's quite safe.
