George[1865] and Alice Taylor [1868]

George and Alice, in 1901, are living in Friern Barnett, with Jenny, 10, Mabel,3, and William, 11 months. George is a Police constable. This is true, Mabel was my mother in law. My husband says he never heard of a 'Jenny', maybe she died. But go back to 1891. and there is only 1 George and Alice in Rodney ,Liverpool. My George came from Hereford and Alice from Pembroke. Would Alice have gone to Glamorgan for Jenny's birth. Jenny was born in Glamorgan, if she was 10 in 1901 she must have been born in 1891, after the census? Not knowing Alice's maiden name does not help. I have put 'Alice' in Ancestry and come up with about a dozen who might fit. My research has told me that many marriages were performed after the pregnancy was confirmed. [There were other children but born after 1901.] Once again I ask the kind folk who have helped me before to work the oracle again. I spent all yesterday afternoon fiddling about on all the censuses back to 1871 and got nowhere. If I knew Alice's maiden name and where and when they got married it would help. Thanks again, Sylvia

If you get her birth cert it will give her mother's maiden name.

If you get the birth certificate of any of George and Alice's children, it will have Alice's maiden name on it.

Sorry, snap rather late.

In the 1911 census it says they have been married 15 years, and Alice comes from Neyland(?) Pembrokeshire. So Jenny born pre-marriage.

So you have found a different George and Alice in 1891?

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 30 May 2010 09:08

Yes, I found a George and Alice Taylor, and George was a police constable, in Rodney Liverpool! That seems to be a co-incidence, as I am sure about Jenny's birth in Glamorgan. But what happened to her. My husband insists there was no 'Jenny' . In 1911 she would have been 19/20. Maybe she left home, or died. Who knows!!!!! Thankyou so much for your input. I am eternally grateful for all the help I have had over the last few months from everybodyy Sylvia

Just had a thought, maybe Jenny was not even George's child. It happens! My own mother was illegitimate, as I have found out since I have been doing this family tree thing!! Sylvia

For ref. Here is the 1901 census - but I can't see George in 1891 with a daughter Jenny. Looking at the ages of the children would suggest that Jenny was the child of a previous marrige either for George or Alice.

Thankyou, we know that Jenny was around, whatever her parentage. I will go to John's 2 remaining sisters and see if they remember anyone speaking about Aunty Jenny! Mind you I have asked about stuff before and they never come up with anything. Sylvia

If this is the correct family, Ancestry has her born Gloucestershire but I can't view the details.

Name: Jenny Taylor
Mother: Alice
Father: George
Birth: abt 1891 - city, Gloucestershire, England
Residence: 1901 - city, Middlesex, England

The only way you are going to progress further is to obtain one of the children's birth certs for her maiden name.

If George had been married to Elisabeth that would maybe explain Jenny's absence after 1901, living with her mum, maybe. And the 7 year gap between her and Mabel. I am an old romantic! Maybe George had an affair with Alice, Mabel was the result and Elisabeth left him? I am writing the Family history for my boys and grandchildren. Trying to write it as a story. The things I have come up with are amazing. I have written something like 2500 words so far. Daft I know, but it keeps me occupied. Sylvia

Back again! Had to concentrate on mundane things like sunday lunch and washing up etc. AAAAARGH! Seems a possibility that Jenny was from a previous relationship. And maybe George got fed up with coalmining. But we shall never know, which is a phrase I have used a lot lately. I discovered that my father had a brother that we never knew about, and I do not think he did either. We shall never know why the brothers lost touch. Thnak you to all who have helped me...
