Cannot find marriage, birth or death certs for either of my mother's parents. Only have birth certs of 2 children around 1918 in Birmingham.
Edward Partington shown as living at 17 Albert Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham in August 1918 & 7 Carlyle Rd, Edgebaston in 1919. Cannot find any record of them after this although know they moved to London in 1920 and then seem to have disappeared.
Only clue so far is that a Walter Henry Fisher was in voter records as living also at 17 Albert Rd, Handsworth from 1915-1920.
Trying to find if any connection between Walter Fisher & Helen/Vera Fisher.
Any help very gratefully received as have hit wall for many months now.

Anne, what is Helen's maiden name? Is it also Fisher? Also wondering who Edward Partington is!

Vanessa Report 22 Feb 2011 09:41

If you have your mothers birth cert, it should show her mothers maiden name.
If you look on www.freebmd.org.uk for your moms birth it will indicate her mothers maiden name (if she was born after 1911). You can then search for a marriage for Walter Fisher and enter your nans maiden name in the spouse surname field and it should find it - if they married.

This shows the maiden name of the mother as FISHER. Is this child Helen and Walters son?

Hello Jan,
thanks very much for replying.
Yes, my mum's mother was Helen Vera Fisher or Vera Helen Fisher (she used the 2 different variations on each of her children's birth certs - my mother and her brother, who were both abandoned in 1920 by their parents.
Helen lists herself as married to Edward Partington on the 2 children's birth certs but cannot find any marriage record.

As the only electoral register taken in 1918 in Birmingham was the "Absent Voters" register I presume that the Edward Partington was probably involved in WW1 in some aspect.

I also believe that there was no other Electoral register taken in Birmingham between 1913 and Spring 1920.

Out of curiosity were did you discover that Walter Henry Fisher was living during 1915~1920?

Looks to be the only Vera Helen likely to have a child 1920 +/- a coulple of years:

Sorry for confusion everyone who has kindly responded. Helen Vera Fisher and Edward Partington are parents of my mother and her brother. In my research the only possible clue I found was that a Walter Henry Fisher is listed as living at 17 Albert Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham in 1918, which is same address as noted on the birth cert of my mother's brother. I don't know if he is anything to do with my Vera/Helen Fisher but feel it is the only clue I have at this stage to follow up.
I have been searching on web for months but as cannot find any marriage cert for Helen/Vera Fisher & Edward Partington, I don't have any info to try to find their birth or death certs. I don't know their ages or their parents names.
Have found parents of Walter Henry Fisher who are Amy Arnoll Quick & Frank Fisher (married 4/8/1890) but can't find if they had any other children such as my Helen/Vera Fisher or if my Helen/Vera is possibly a cousin etc.

Hello Vanessa,
thanks for checking, but the Gloucester Vera Helen has already been checked and discounted as she lived, married and died in Glos area.

There is Walter harry Fisher born Kings Norton 1888 but looking at census reports no sign of a Vera/Helen.

Hello Jonesy,
A few years ago a genealogist tried to find info for me but was only able to find the birth cert of my mother's brother (they were separated when she was one year old and we don't know what happened to him). This genealogist found in the Kellys Directory 1920 that Walter Fisher lived at this address from 1915-1920 and she told me that he was also listed in the voting list in 1918.

If you wish to checkout the 1918 Birmingham Absent voters list you can do so online at the site below. There is a small charge but it might be worth it. You can search by name and/or address.

Hello Ginny
Thanks for your help. This Edward Charles Partington is the brother of my mother but we know nothing more of him than this birth cert. I have checked with Traceline and various adoption agencies but they could find no record of him around 1920 when he was abandoned. My mother was very luckily taken in by a neighbour and brought up by them but never saw her brother again as they were separated in 1920.
Sorry for the confusion as Edward Charles is son of Helen/Vera Fisher and Edward Partington. The Walter Henry Fisher is just someone listed as living at same address as Helen & Edward in 1918 but, as I am trying any and every avenue I can, I wondered if there may be a connection somewhere within the Fisher families.
Helen/Vera Fisher and Edward Partington seem to have disappeared from all records after 1919. Edward Partington is not listed in the war records as have already checked these.

Thank you, Jonesey, I think it will be useful for me to look at this site as I didn't know about it. I will try 1920 onwards as I have address for Edward Partington for 1918 and 1919.

Thanks, Brummiejan. I did see this John and Sarah at 87 Albert Rd and I will follow up in case they are linked somehow with my Vera/Helen Fisher and possibly also the Walter Henry Fisher.

Hello Vanessa,
Thank you, but unfortunately when I checked this one myself I found that they are Ewart William Fisher and Adela Victoria Partington so the surnames are the wrong sexes for me as the father is Partington and the mother is Fisher.
