My messages from Barbara.

New message to Mel

From Barbara
Hello Mel thank you for your interest and I apologise for not answering sooner. This is all new to me and as I don't put the computer on every day I was a bit shocked to see the replys from you and Linda. I did email Linda last night and received a lovely reply from her today. I have just started researching my fathers (his mothers) side and have just had a trip to Scotland and was able to visit some of the places that my dad grew up but unfortunately didn't have time to research anything properly. John Carey(my gt gt gt grandfather) was of interest because he was involved with the Old Musselburgh Golf Links and his photo is on their website plus in the club rooms which was lovely to see. My information has mainly come from Genes or the LDS site but am thinking of joining Scotlands people or Ancestry. It is all a little overwhelming at times for me and I think I made the mistake of researching all the grandparents at once. Anyway once again my apologies for not answering sooner and for all your help it is very much appreciated.
Regards Barbara Weston (Australia)

Hello Mel
Thank you so much for your lovely reply it is so nice of you to be interested. Have just been on to the thread site and saw the emails from Leonie. Am not sure how to go about using that site so thought I would just use this one. As Leonie said we have ancestors in common and she was a wonderful help in the beginning. I don't like to worry people though and have managed to find out a lot myself but it is the Scottish records that confuse me. Anyway will go on to the site and see what I can find. Won't have much time in the next few weeks though as we are just waiting on a call from our daughter who is expecting her 1st baby tomorrow and she lives 3 hours from Perth so it will be a matter of just jumping in the car and going. Our son who lives in Sydney turns 40 on the 24th so we are hoping that the baby arrives soon so that we can go over and help with the birthday celebrations. Don't know who said once one retired life was a breeze as ours is very hectic.
Anyway once again many thanks and I hope all goes well with your mum, will be thinking of you.
Fond regards Barbara

Morning mum had a bad time at the hosp so may have to spend a lot of time with her today.

Found Thomas's second marriage to Marion but it is a submitted record.

I had thought her second name would have been King as the step children's name was King on that census previously put up!!

Hi Mel

Yes it is exciting. I'm sure that all these Carreys in Inveresk are related and we should be able to build up a picture of whose who. I'm guessing that Barbara's John had a few brothers as most of the names are similar in each family. Anyway, Musselburgh wasn't a very big place then, nothing like as many people living there as the main cities.

Good luck at the hospital with your Mum.

I have personal replies from Barbara also but hav'nt the time to put them on today as have trouble with my mum and a hosp. appointment that is going to take all day. Will get back to you lot tomorrow probably.

Am finding this exciting. I saw the Caddie entry whilst looking the other day!!

Since some of your Carreys lived with Janet Tough, this birth may be worth looking at on Scotlandspeople

Found it - it was on the 1881 English census (free on familysearch.org). There was a John G, Carey that was an architect but a bit too old and born in Sussex. There was a Scottish John Carrey born in the correct year who was a prisoner in Kent.

Mel

I had a PM from Barbara as follows

From BarbaraThank you for your information. Am very new to this so am not sure quite where to look. John Carey and Ann Heriot were I believe my gt gt grandparents. My grandmother Isabella Ferguson (married Richard Weston) was the daughter of Anne Carey and John Ferguson .Anne Carey was the daughter of Anne Heriot and John Carey. I have this information from The Church of Latter day Saints. My father Richard Weston was born in Musselburgh on the 21/3/1912 to Isabella and Richard and they came to Australia in 1923. I am really looking for any information on the Ferguson and Carey families. Regards Barbara

So now we know what Barbara is looking for and where the info came from.

When I get time, I'll have another look at things.

Leonie

I had absolutely no idea about the caddie! If fact, I thought I had found him elsewhere - must have another look.

Leonie

Leonie Report 10 Nov 2009 10:06

Hi

Barbara and I share ancestors and have been in contact before, so I am equally as interested in everyone's response. Also interested to see the different spellings of Tough and also Carey.

Had to laugh at the "par for the course" comment from Rootgatherer as the John G (Glen) Carey in this family was a well known caddie at Musselborough Golf Course. You must have known that!

Anyway, I will prompt Barbara to respond and say what she is looking for in particular. As we are in Western Oz, we are in a different time zone, so the response will probably be posted when you guys are zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz., or at work.

Regards
Leonie
