My Uncle Cliff Bygrave married Fanny Lockley in 1945 at Shropshire. I cannot find the two or more children I believe he had. Could someone please help and also if he has died, where and when? It is possible that he left England for another commonwealth country but it wasn't New Zealand. He was the son of George William and Jessie Ann Bygrave, London.
Thank you.

Many thanks indeed. Sorry, I've been a bit tardy. The process seems to have changed since I last made an enquiry. Your input is very welcome and I am still wondering if my uncle died and when, where.

Yes, it definitely is his birth, thank you. And a big thank you for finding the names of my cousins!
It's unlikely that Cliff is still alive and the info above is as much as I have.Your help very appreciated.

Could be a mistake???

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005

Name: Chaples Clifford N Bygrave
Birth Date: Mar 1921
Death Registration Month/Year: 1975

The transcription does match the GRO listing, but they have been known to be wrong before!

The death cert would give you the informant

Thanks, Ginny. I don't think so but I will look into it a bit further. I'm grateful for your help.

Ive done an ER check and he not coming up in the UK.

I wouldnt rule out that death, I mean who the heck is called 'Chaples' for a start!

Edit; the birth matches the one posted earlier, born March, it could have been registered in April

And, its not too common for someone to have two middle names...and the area is matching where he married ...I'd risk my £9.25 on it any day

No, I'm not ruling it out but if my Mum's brother was called Chaples, knowing her(now dec.), she would have had a smart comment about it! Yes, to the 2 middle names-my daughter and her daughter answer to three given names!
At one stage, Cliff was going to emigrate to N.Z. He didn't come here. Hence the possibility he went elsewhere. Fairly sure not Australia so could have been Canada but I'm purely guessing.
Thanks.

I dont think you get where Im coming from

Chaples could have been Charles....a middle name for Clifford?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 29 May 2010 10:53

I don't think Ginny is saying that the name IS Chaples - just that the "r" in Charles has been mistranscribed for a "p", and the second middle initial mistranscribed too.

There are lots of instances of this happening in the indexes.

I'd be willing to bet that this is your man's death.

Thanks Kath and Ginny. You're right-I didnt get it! If it is him, he died before my mother did and she never mentioned it if in fact she knew. Might just be worth sending for the cert. Do English certs show the parents for 1975? Thanks.

Rae
