I'm trying to find information/contacts for Bert E Tedman (Bertie). Born in Broomhill Orpington, Kent 1891. I have marriages for him in Nottingham, Winchester, London. Dover and Llandudno, Wales.

Any information, greatly received.

Thanks to all.

Some of the info I am not aware of. Yes he is a colourful character hence the brickwall and intrigue.

Welsh connection: 1926 Q4 11B 843

Portsmouth connection, one I haven't found. Thanks again.

So, - the Welsh one was a Violet, not a Florence !

Perhaps she was a bit 'posher' than the others as he is now calling himself 'Bertram' !!

Do you know what happened to all these wives?

Did he have hundreds of 'little' Berties??

I don't know how he found the time but he did manage to earn 2 medals:

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
about Bert Edward Tedman
Name: Bert Edward Tedman
Regiment or Corps: Royal Garrison Artillery, Royal Garrison Artillery
Regimental number: 1251, 292769

He must have got 'married' every time he came home on leave !!

It would be interesting to see what details are on his Army Records - do you have them?

Be,

Do you have the newspaper report about Berti's Bigamy trial and his prison sentence?

If not - I can send you a copy.

Let me know,

Dea - is there really such a thing? I did wonder if he had married Ms Smith twice as first time was bigamous?

Naughty man!!

Yes Nicki - there IS such a thing - I don't like to post it until Be get's back - I feel it would be like 'gossipping about her family behind her back' (silly me, but that's how it feels!)

If you can't wait, you can pm me your e-mail and I will send you through a copy.

Be,

Good Afternoon, Apologies for late reply. Thanks Dea, Nicki. Pam for your assistance, appreciated.. Plenty to go at, I have some information and some of it is new to me.

I can confirm that Mr Tedman was a bigamist. Dea, Would appreciate a copy of his trial Thanks

On a certificate I have it states that he belonged to the the Royal West Kent Regiment (which varies to that on his Military record) and that he was a conductor on a tram.

I've obtained three m.certs for him and there are certain consistancies, his fathers name and job, but with slight variations and there are never any members of his family acting as witnesses.

His marriage in Wales. He puts his job as a Musician. To build up a profile of Bert Tedman I'll be completing the full set of m.certs, until yesterday I thought was 6 and is now 7. He appears to wed ladies in their late twenties of the lower to middle, middle class order. Is this significant? What became of them? What became of their children?
After his release and subsequent marriages did he continue is wicked ways? I've still to find out.
Any idea if a trial transcript would be available?
