I am trying to find a Ruth M Mackenzie born 1926 d 2000. She was married to my father for the last 16 years of their lives. Her birthday was 15th January but I can't find a birth certificate. TJust in case this tunes with your search

Ruth is no longer a member of Genes so there is no way of contacting her.

Do you have the marriage cert for Ruth and your father as this should show if she had another name. If she had been married before it should give her birth surname.

Once you know you can then try again with frrebmd and Scotlands people. With her fathers name and occupation from the marriage cert you should be able to find him on the 1939 register and previous census.

Added: I’m wondering where this is as I haven’t yet found this marriage.

There is a probate record for a Ruth Beddow died 27 June - Ipswich Registry Office. Probate is not necessarily sorted at the nearest to place of death. Possible clues if you have that or send for it. (£1.50 I think through the site)

EDIT - ?Anthony's parents married 1926 Cannock RD - Bruce Beddow and Stella Grady.

As you have shown, there does seem to be confusion over names - who, what when sort of thing, I assume Christopher knows all that.

He really does need to collect what information he can from his father’s marriage certificate to Ruth. At the age they were it is very likely they were both married before.

Maybe Christopher knows where Ruth came from - there a lot of Ruth M’s registered in the first quarter of 1928.

Only seeing 2 Ruth M births as McKenzie 1926 +/- 2 years. The first is 1924 in Oundle but a Q2 registration.

Possible birth for Ruth - only one England/Wales. Quarter is right but year out by one - death says born 1926 - not unusual. Not seeing a birth in Scotland either to fit the given birth year on death record. But she may have been born elsewhere.

:-P to me, I think I was looking at 1928.

If that sailing is correct it would confirm my thoughts that Ruth had been married before, after all, she was nearly 60 when she married.

Hugh Grant McKenzie and Ruth McKenzie are at 43 Foss Street, Glebe North, West Sydney in 1963. He's a plasterer and she's a saleswoman

with Ruth Marie at 105 Harris Street, Pyrmont, Werriwar, Macarthur, NSW in 1958

Looks as though those two Hugh’s were born in Scotland. ( I don’t have SP)

You can register with Scotland's People and buy credits and then view the certificate for the later marriage for 6 credits ((30 credits for £7.50 last time I bought)

Goes back to knowing what names are on the marriage certificate.

I couldn’t find a Ruth Drucke on a free search but Dru* Ruth did show one.

Surname for that one looks to be Drummond

I had a look at Ruth's 1944 marriage cert.

Her father was Hans Drucke, mechanic.
Her mother was Hatha (Katha ?) Drucke, maiden surname Burslein ? Durstlein ?

The handwriting is hard to read.

I would guess she came over from (Germany?) before (?) WW2.

I was beginning to wonder if Drucke was foreign. Not picking up anything on google with those two versions of place names.

Update: how about Durnstein, Lower Austria on the Danube.

Durnstein (if that's what it is on the cert) is Ruth's mother's maiden surname, and not a place.
