Hope not Maylon...

Address on the birth certificate (1887) was: 6, Spring Road,Lanesfield. Dudley, Sedgley, Stafford

On the marriage cert. 1910 (William was an iron moulder and also on the aforementioned birth cert too) address was 183 Holyhead Road, Handsworth.

its odd that i cant see a birth for the rachel born 1889 the one in the 1901 census

Angela

Angela Report 25 Aug 2015 23:20

It is odd. She's still there in 1911 though - my Rachel was married in 1910.

What is 'odd', as you refer to 1911?, thought Rachel was below...where have you seen another 1911?...

Not helpful in finding Rachel in 1891 but might be useful:-

the death of Rachel Ellen put up by Malyon earlier is a transcription error on the Volume number. The death place is Northampton:

Looks like the above death is correct- she was in an institution in 1890 too- so probably why we can't find her.-

i said it was odd that the racheal mentioned in 1891 census because i cant find a birth for that racheal born 1889 was thinking could she be the rachael that angela is looking for and they added a couple of years on her birth date because willian and lydia were only married in 1890 so it could be the william angela is looking for married lydia

Malyon- the William Aston that married Lydia Whitehouse in 1890 is not the same William and Lydia that have a daughter Rachel on the 1891 census. When the widower, William Aston, marries Lydia Whitehouse in 1890 he gives his abode as Cole Street- so that would be this William:

1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Cole Street, Dudley, Staffordshire, England

William Aston Head Married Male 36 1855 General Labourer Dudley, Worc
Lydia Aston Wife Married Female 27 1864 - Dudley, Worcestershire,
Alfred Aston Son - Male 9 1882 Scholar Dudley, Worcestershire,
Ernest Aston Son - Male 5 1886 Scholar Dudley, Worcestershire,
Albert Aston Son - Male 7 1884 Scholar Dudley, Worcestershire,
Joseph Aston Son - Male 0 1891 - Dudley, Worcestershire,
------------------------------------------------------------------

As put up previously the William and Lydia with daughter Rachel lived in Rushall in 1891 so are not the same people:

1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Royal Oak, Rushall, Walsall, Staffordshire, England

William Aston Head Married Male 27 1864 Iron Castor Walsall, Staffordshire,
Lydia Aston Wife Married Female 26 1865 - Rushall, Staffordshire, England
Rachel Aston Daughter - Female 2 1889 - Walsall, Staffordshire, England

I'm wondering about this man- he's listed as a widower, but, it may have been easier that explaining his wife was in a lunatic asylum. The details match the details he gave on his marriage to Rachel Ellen:

1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Wolverhampton Street, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England

Wm Aston Head Married Male 51 1840 Iron Shingler Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Sarah Ann Aston Wife Married Female 51 1840 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Wm Aston Son Widower Male 26 1865 Iron Moulder Bilston, Staffordshire,
James Aston Son Single Male 15 1876 Shop Assistant Bilston, Staffordshire,
Edith Aston Daughter Single Female 12 1879 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Flora Aston Daughter - Female 3 1888 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Nellie Aston Daughter - Female 4 1887 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Willie Aston Grandson - Male 0 1891 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England

Wondered if Nellie was William's daughter Rachel Ellen? Need to look into it a bit more

Gritty

Gritty Report 26 Aug 2015 15:30

This is the same family in 1881:

1881 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
48, Gozzard Street, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England

William Aston Head Married Male 40 1841 Shingler In Iron Works Bilston, Staffordshire
Sarah Ann Aston Wife Married Female 40 1841 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Robert G Aston Son Single Male 19 1862 Butcher Bilston, Staffordshire, England
William Aston Son Single Male 16 1865 Errand Boy Bilston, Staffordshire,
Mary J Aston Daughter Single Female 14 1867 No Occupation Bilston, Staffordshire,
Elis Aston Daughter Single Female 10 1871 Scholar Bilston, Staffordshire, England
James Aston Son Single Male 5 1876 Scholar Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Edith Aston Daughter Single Female 2 1879 Scholar Bilston, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------------------

In 1901 Nellie is living with her Aunt Mary J- meaning that Nellie is a child of her brothers- so could be William's daughter:

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
26, Cookson Street, Blackpool, Fylde, Lancashire, England

Charles Morris Head Married Male 33 1868 Joiner Blackpool, Lancashire, England
Mary Jane Morris Wife Married Female 33 1868 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England
Charles Aston Morris Son Single Male 7 1894 - Blackpool, Lancashire, England
Edith Nora Morris Daughter Single Female 1 1900 - Blackpool, Lancashire, England
Nellie Aston Niece Single Female 14 1887 - Bilston, Staffordshire, England

Gritty

Gritty Report 26 Aug 2015 15:32

Nellie is often used in place of Ellen. Also in 1911 Rachel Ellen gives her place of birth as Bilston, which also fits with above 'Nellie'.

Who were the witnesses on Rachel Ellen's marriage to Albert Currell?
