Would this be your Mary McKenzie - the only one showing on Scotlands People for 1882 +/- 1 year amongst the 8 for Aberdeenshire. You will need to buy credits for Scotlands People (£7 for 30 credits. 1 credit gets you a list as below, but you then need 5 credits to download the image. If she was illegitimate you are unlikely to get any details never mind firm details of the father.

When you find the register entry for Mary's birth, check to see if there is a note in the left margin. Sometimes there is an RCE (Register of Corrected Entries). If Mary's Mum took the father to court and successfully proved paternity, it will be recorded on the RCE. It costs an extra couple of credits to view the RCE.

Also the Aberdeenshire Poor Relief records have survived and it may be worth checking these to see if Christian claimed relief.

Polly

there's no real point looking up on the WDYTYA Board .......

........ it's set up only during the WDYTYA show, the staff take requests from attendees at the show, and we try to answer ................... but few of them ever return!

It looks as though Rod Gauld never ever did acknowledge any of the information found for him
