Joy Report 22 Feb 2013 13:08

1871 a possible James b Woolwich about 1854, a servant, in the home of a Willins family, in Salisbury.

Joy

Joy Report 22 Feb 2013 13:13

For interest, there is a James Edward Vick in London electoral registers in 6 Mazzard Row. Camberwell North Ward, in 1914 and 1915.

Joy

Joy Report 22 Feb 2013 13:18

Sometimes people use a different first name or are called by a different name: just in case - in 1881 there is a John Vick b Woolwich about 1852, private soldier, "Fourth (Q.D.) Hussars", Aldershot, Hampshire.

Karen in the desert Report 22 Feb 2013 13:20

1861 at WInterbourne Wiltshire.
James Vick age 8, makes his approx birth year at c1853. Birthplace Woolwich Kent. Parents Joseph & Eliza.

Working on that, the following is a possibility.........

1871.
At Salisbury Wiltshire.
James VICK, Errand Boy, age 17, b.Woolwich c1854.
He appears to be living with the Mullins family, listed as son (I'm not convinced he is the son).
Edit: Transcript says Willins, original image looks like Mullins.

for interest, Christina's birth registration ............... if the requester does not know who James Edward married, obtaining this certificate would provide the mother's maiden name

Interesting to note that on the 1901 Census, James is noted as "Horse Keeper, L.C.C Tramways"

this could give an indication to help find him on earlier censuses ........... plus it COULD fit in with the 1881 Census entry found by JoyKM ....................

in 1881 there is a John Vick b Woolwich about 1852, private soldier, "Fourth (Q.D.) Hussars", Aldershot, Hampshire.

Army service could also possibly explain the age difference between James and his wife Annie

I was thinking an army connection too. It would explain the childrens' various places of birth. Woolwich is very much an army town and they were dependent on horses. He also might not have been a soldier but grooms were needed for the horses.
