Jenny Waghorn looking for marriage of Louisa Elstone to William Clifton . In the census 1871 we can see them married with 2 children but cannot find marriage cert. We think they changed their name to Thornton and we know in 1901 she was Louisa Hill and was in Paddington.

When and where was Louisa born please?

Can you post the 1871 census please to give us some clues
Only William and Louisa Clifton I can see are in Birmingham aged 33 and 27 but there is only 1 child - William A age 8 - all born Worcestershire

I cannot see any other Louisa & William Clifton with children in 1871 apart from the Warwicks one mentioned by Stuart.

NOTE: The Louisa & William Clifton showing up in the 1881 census, living in Oxon, is NOT the family we are seeking since that Louisa's maiden name was Bonner.

I'm inclined to think I should delete my 1871 list above to save confusion. Have done so.

So Louisa has a son Herbert Elston Thornton in 1874 who at his marriage names his father as William Thornton. She is then to be found in Paddington in 1891 with John Hill and in 1901 she is a Widow.

(same address as 1901 census - think Mary Hill (widow) is his mother) - so presumably not married to Louisa)

The crucial census is the 1881 but I can't find any of them anywhere. She's not with John Hill, he is still with his mother and sister Louisa. I have searched under Thornton, Elstone and Clifton but just can't track her or her children down. The only thing that appears to be a certainty is that she didn't marry any of her "husbands".
