I think they use the term 'sex' in its simplest context, I think there are many members who would probably struggle with the term 'gender'.

Especially those for whom English may not be their first language.

At least when asked what sex someone is the vast majority of people will understand.

Remember the computing acronym K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. :-D :-D :-D

Isn't there a third gender ?

Use the word 'sex' when asking for or stating details as recorded on birth and death certificates and, when someone signs up with Genes Reunited, don't ask for a person's gender and give the alternatives of male or female, since neither of these is a possible answer, if using the term correctly. If you must ask for gender, give the alternatives masculine or feminine.

Hi John,

Interesting observation.

This board is for suggestions to changes you would like to see made to GR. What is the change you are suggesting?

Sex and gender are not the same. On legal documents, including birth and death certificates our sex is recorded. We, and medicical science cannot change it. Male and female are sexes.

Our gender, which we and medical science can change (even a wig will do it) should not be confused with our sex. Gender is a perception of attributes and is masculine, feminine or neuter.
