Genes Advisor Report 10 Jun 2014 09:27

I joined Genes Reunited in December to get help looking for my father, who I haven’t seen since I was 1 year old. I'd been looking for him on and off for 9 years, since I was about 16, but last year I decided to look in earnest and made seeking help my new year's resolution. Despite searching for my father for years there is a major reason why I had difficulty finding him: his name is Ronald McDonald. Try looking for that on Google! I wasn’t getting anywhere and decided to use Genes Reunited to get some help.

As soon as I signed up I posted everything I knew about him on the Genes community boards and explained that I'd had very little luck so far. Several members were very helpful with their suggestions and some even did electoral roll searches to help me. One member found someone through Facebook who matched the details I’d posted by looking up my half-sister's name. When I checked it against my research and the electoral roll entries that other members had found for me I was able to confirm that it was him, and I am not ashamed to say that I shed a tear. It took me a while to message him and eventually I got in touch with my half-sister. She was a little taken aback but incredibly supportive and a week or so later I got a message from my father. We met up shortly after and the rest is history! Thanks to the help I got here on Genes Reunited, not only did I find him after over 20 years but I have met with him several times, we get along well and I am staying in touch with both him and the sisters I never knew I had.
