Hi i would like to ask your expertise. I have a ancestor George Harold p Creasey who i think was in the Royal Armoured Corps but also ENSA would this be possible? also as a member of ENSA would he be expected to fight.
George was from East Grinstead does this suggest which RMC he was in.

ENSA members were not expected to fight.

Your best bet is his service record, as already advised.

Apply for his records. NO OTHER WAY to find out.

But don't expect a lot of detail.

When I sent for my father 's WW2 record, I was disappointed to find it only listed the countries he'd served in - not specific places in those countries, which is what I'd hoped for.
There's a family story that he was at Tobruk, but the record only says he was in Libya, so no way of knowing if the story is true or not.

From what's online about ENSA, if George was in the Royal Armoured Corps, it sounds as if he might have been transferred to Stars in Battledress, rather than being in ENSA.
ENSA members were civilians, and weren't allowed to go to areas where fighting was happening.
Therefore, Stars in Battledress was formed from serving members of the army, who could go to more dangerous places.
