Trevor Report 22 Nov 2017 02:32

I am trying to locate living relatives that are descendants of Robert Fox Newton of Beer, Devonshire. I am trying to match our genetic relationship by a DNA swab test. The paternity of my father was denied and my father and purported grand father have both passed away long ago. I want to pass the unconfirmed 25% of my ancestry to my children and grand children before I am also done.

BEER PATERNITY CASE Local Carpenter Denies Domestic's Allegations

Axminster Magistrates on Tuesday, after a lengthy hearing, dismissed an application for a Paternity Order, made by Winnifred May Burborough, domestic servant, of Beer, against Clifford Abraham Newton, carpenter, of Beer.

Mr. M. J. McGahey, for the defence, said the girl had not corroborated her evidence any material particular.

Defendant, who was married, emphatically denied the paternity, and said when he first heard the allegation against him at once, repudiated it, and said he would rather to prison than pay.

Looks to be two further children to Leslie & Phyllis. Son Peter b1940- and possibly still living in Devon.

Also, don't rule out female descendants. YDNA is the best way of proving a match in the paternal line, but autosomal DNA can identify cousins within the distance that female descendants of Robert Fox Newton would be to you.

That would not be as good evidence of paternity, but there would have to be some other explanation for the relationship otherwise. :-)

11 people have Robert Newton 1862, Beer, Devon, in their trees at this website.

They are unlikely in the extreme to see this message, as few people who sign up here and create family trees ever read the community boards. So the thing to do is send them all messages to ask whether they are direct descendants. (Never just ask to see someone's tree!)

Make sure that even if your paid membership here lapses, you keep a current email address in your account so you get notice of private messages, and you will be able to reply.

There are also about 15 family trees at Ancestry with Robert Fox Newton (some say Robert Cox, or just Robert) borh 1862, Beer, Devon. Many of these are probably the same people as at this website, so I might try here first.

If you don't subscribe to Ancestry, you can take out a free trial membership and send messages to those members (giving an email address for replies).

Kenneth, it really isn't quite fair to put personal details about other members in the thread. I would edit your post to remove the names.

edit

Kenneth chose instead to delete his message, which then isn't quite fair to other members who don't know what info was sent privately.

Kenneth identified a member here who is a relation of Clifford and sent location info for that person and their parents.
