Insurance - perhaps, but I doubt it. You would have to read your Buildings Insurance Schedule or you could ring their helpline and ask - might be a 24 hour help line - this easier option. If ringing you'll probably need to have your Buildings Insurance policy to hand to quote ref no. Wotever, you can't ignore the possibility of a leak due your central heating/hot water problem

If you have a largish screw driver or similar tool (make sure no taps running or toilet flushing) put the tip of tool on your cold tap then your ear against the tool handle - if you have a leak underground you should be able to hear some noise. I did this when we had a leak from underground pipe in back garden

No, it's a mortgaged property Ronald. If there is a leakage would it be covered with insurance?

Ron2 Report 26 Jan 2008 20:56

You asked about charge for fixing a possible leak in grounds of your house. Not all water companys charge but............. if you rent the house either from council or private landlord then you would not be charged as any charges go to landlord. So if you are renting why not ring water company

Anne

Anne Report 26 Jan 2008 20:54

No, no-ones touched that.

Has anyone turned the house stopcock down - usually located under the sink.

Anne

Anne Report 26 Jan 2008 20:46

The toilet is flushing okay, central heating isn't making any strange noises although I have turned it off just to be on the safe side as suggested. There is water coming out of the taps just so slow.

Do you have drinking water?
Water for W.C.?

Maybe ask neighbours for some before it gets too late.
Enough for hot water bottles.?

KEEP warm.
Do you have alternative heating? It's easier to keep warm than to try and warm up later.

Turn the heating off NOW
and get someone to check the problem asap

I think the fee depends on whether the leak is in a pipe under your propert. If it is in a pipe on public property I don't think they can charge you because you are informing them.

Anne

Anne Report 26 Jan 2008 20:14

Does the water board charge a fee?

the heating may be working fine Anne but to be on the safe side, turn it off till you find out what's going on

Anne

Anne Report 26 Jan 2008 20:11

The neighbours haven't got a problem with theirs, and the central heating is working fine.

Suggest you turn heating off as you obviously ain't getting an adequate water supply presuming you have gas CH. Your gas boiler will be heating your hot water of which you say hardly any. Could be a major leak in road somewhere. If was me I'd ring the water company emergency number - they MIGHT know about the problem already. Like Jean suggested see if your neighbours having same problem

Got anyone around who might have got at the stop tap, or ask your neighbours if they have the same problem, in which case you need the water board.

Anne

Anne Report 26 Jan 2008 19:55

Can anyone tell me why the pressure has gone on all the household taps? The water is only coming out in a drizzle on both hot and cold.
