We have to wear names badges

Year before last mine said

Jan
Hayle

Customers thought it was my full name and thought it was funny that I was called hayle and worked in Hayle .................doh

Last year it said

Jan
Memory maker

Great way to greet someone who is complaining, the amount of times I was told more like a "nightmare maker"

Hayley - perhaps it's in case you get lost? lol

We also have name tags to go in out uniforms in case we get knocked over (I'm keeping my name tags for when I have to go into an Old People's Home - not long now)

I used to work at the benefits agency. You had to have a name on your badge but you could have an assumed name. One lad who live near many of our customers, had Arthur on his, someone asked for him at reception and the receptionist said, oh, you mean John? Doh!

I don't work in the public sector. Our office isnt open to public vistors...so I can't understand why we have to wear them.

Blue Moon Report 17 Jan 2008 19:39

Where I work we do a range of shirts where we can get them embroided with the company's names on them,
there call "get personal work ware",
well our head office had some shirt made for the staff to promote them.
Now 99% of our customers are male, and I am the only female in our store,
when they arrived they were emborided with
"Get Personal With Me"on them,
now there was no way I was going to ware a shirt with that on it,
so i had one of my own made up saying "Get Personal If You Dare"

I dont think it went down well with the big bosses!!

How very true Jac, when we first had badges our full name had to be on them, but after complaining about not wanting to show our surnames on them they were changed to just showing our first names.

Jac

Jac Report 17 Jan 2008 19:16

Seriously - there is a danger if you are expected to wear a badge displaying both your first and surnames. We have to where I work, and whilst it's supposed to be for the benefit of the public in order that they know who is staff, and who is not - it can be a nuisance if someone wants to use your name and identity for their own purposes.

Some of our staff are entirely unhappy with displaying their full names on badges. (I hide my badge under my lapel! so I'm wearing it (to comply with company procedure) but if someone wants to see it they have to lunge at my left boob - there are perks!! lol
